Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

The Opportunity:
As an Occupational Hygiene Technician (referred to internally as Officer - Industrial Hygiene), you will manage on site testing for occupational hazards, conduct routine inspections, and support the implementation of occupational hygiene programs to ensure compliance and safety.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and execute on site testing for dust, noise, potable water and other occupational hazards, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to testing protocols.Maintain a serviceable and compliant fleet of monitoring equipment in accordance with required standards.Maintain accurate records and reports utilising data management systems such as Cority and ChemAlertConduct fit testing for respiratory and hearing protection Assist in the implementation of industrial hygiene programs by monitoring workplace conditions and reporting findings to the Team Lead.Conduct routine inspections and audits of work areas to identify potential health hazards and provide corrective actions.

 

Qualifications & Skills:
The following qualifications and memberships will be highly regarded but not essential:

Tertiary qualification in Occupational Hygiene, Science or Health and Safety AIOH Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene course Membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists 

 

Other capabilities:

Mine air quality and/or respirable dust monitoring qualifications or ability to obtainNoise Officer qualifications or ability to obtainExposure to working in a heavy industrial/mining environment Awareness of industry standards and legislation applicable to the roleExcellent data entry and report writing skills with a high attention to detailProficient use of MS Office softwareCurrent Australian drivers licenceEffective communication and influencing skillsAbility to work collaboratively with a diverse range of people across disciplines
