Occupational Therapist

Description:Position Summary:

Evaluates and treat pediatric patients (infants to 18 year old) referred by a licensed physician in accordance with the Practice Act for the State of Georgia, and the Guidelines for Professional Conduct of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Actively supervises and participates in the care of patients treated by Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA’s). Complies with hospital policies and supports the mission and values of the hospital.

Position Requirements:

A:  Licensure/Certification/Registration:  The Occupational Therapist must be duly licensed by the Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy.

B.  Education:  The Occupational Therapist must be a graduate of an AOTA or other accredited school of Occupational Therapy.  Occupational Therapists may have Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degrees.

C:  Experience:  Occupational Therapists should have as a minimum, broad experience in a variety of different clinical settings through their AOTA or other accredited clinical internship programs.  

D.   Special Qualifications:   Must have a working knowledge of the principles and practices of Occupational Therapy, including evaluation, treatment planning, treatment applications, and all manner of ADL training, sensorimotor activities, and restoration of UE functions.  Should also be knowledgeable of required documentation and billing that satisfies the Georgia State practice act, JCAHO requirements, and meets the requirements of Medicare, Medicaid , and other insurers.  Must be able to plan, organize and coordinate therapy treatments with other therapy providers, most notably Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA’s), Physical Therapists (PT’s), and Speech Therapists (SLP’s).  Must be able to work collaboratively with all other members of the St. Mary's Health Care System, including nurses, physicians, and hospital personnel.  Must be able to deal constructively with conflict; collect, analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources and take appropriate action.  Must be able to relate to physician referral sources and demonstrate excellent customer service.  Must be willing and able to participate in clinical quality measurement and performance improvement programs as requested, and be in compliance with all of St. Mary's Health Care System policies and procedures.

III.        Degree of Supervision Required:  Indirect with regular follow-up and access provided by  the Clinical Coordinators, and the Department Director.
