Occupational Therapist
Position Summary Plan, organizes, and conducts occupational therapy programs in a variety of sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities designed to help patients regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to their handicaps. Teaches patient skills and techniques required for participation in activities. Studies and evaluates patient reactions to the program and prepares progress reports. Conducts services in a variety of settings including acute care, outpatient, home health, skilled nursing facility, etc. Minimum Qualifications Work Experience Previous healthcare experience preferred.
Education Successful completion of an occupational therapy program at a school of occupational therapy approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association or the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association required.
Certifications/Licensure Licensed (active or temporary) as an Occupational Therapist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky required.   Plans and administers medically prescribed occupational therapy treatment for patients to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability. Review’s physician referral (prescription) and patient’s condition and medical records to determine occupational therapy treatment required. Tests and measures patient’s strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs. Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data. Documents treatment, response, and progress in patient’s chart or enters information in computer. Instructs patient and family in treatment procedures to be conducted. Evaluates, fits, and adjusts prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommends modification. Confers with physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate occupational therapy treatment with other aspects of patient’s health care. Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of support personnel and students.
