OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Hourly Pay Range: $29.00-$33.00

Screens/evaluates individuals to assess therapy needs.  Provides therapy (developing/ modifying treatment plan) and re-evaluations as needed.  Provides clinical support to staff as needed.  Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Completes an initial evaluation for all newly-referred individuals, making recommendations as appropriate.
• Develops treatment plans as required in the areas of occupational therapy, such as sensory motor development, visual-perceptual, cognitive and neuromuscular fine/gross motor development. Treatment plans also include: activities of daily living, adaptive equipment and wheel chair positioning/maintenance.
• Provides clinical supervision and training to COTAs or other staff involved in providing services, and assures completion of required treatment.
• Completes and/or reviews required documentation of therapy services.
• Provides therapy as needed.
• Provides direct clinical supervision to COTAs.
• As a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team, participates in professional meetings as assigned, integrating services with other providers.
• Counsels patients and their family members/caregivers (if applicable) regarding the patient’s occupational therapy services.
• Provides orientation to COTA staff and participates as needed in the orientation process for all staff; participates in in-service training.
• Provides consultation to staff for development of individual goals.
• Makes recommendations for the purchase of specialized equipment, materials, and wheelchair modifications.
• When indicated, develop discharge planning with individual/family and interdisciplinary team. Establish/teach individual/family home exercise program and teach safe and proper use of adaptive equipment as needed.
• Referable to other disciplines if necessary.
• Assists in provision of therapy services in ancillary clinics as necessary.
• Complies with all agency policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• Must be licensed and registered by New York State Department of Education to practice Occupational Therapy.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides direct clinical supervision to the COTAs.
