Occupational Therapist - Behavioral Health 625

Canyon Vista is a 57 unit transitional and permanent supportive housing (PSH) program serving adults in San Mateo County with serious mental illness.  Telecare will provide onsite case management, housing stabilization and rehabilitative services to tenants living in transitional and PSH units. Services onsite will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. This program is expected to open May 2024.

Full Time; AM 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; Sunday - Thursday

Expected starting wage range is $95,801.10 - $118,252.32.  Telecare applies geographic differentials to its pay ranges.  The pay range assigned to this role will be based on the geographic location from which the role is performed.  Starting pay is commensurate with relevant experience above the minimum requirements.   

POSITION SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Administrator the Occupational Therapist serves as a member of the Individual Behavior Support Team (IBST) for residents who require occupational therapy. The Occupational Therapist plans, implements and administers the portion of the Individualized Behavior Support Plan (IBSP) relevant to their scope of practice and expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Demonstrate the Telecare mission, purpose, values and beliefs in everyday language and contact with the internal and external stakeholders
• Plans, organizes and delivers occupational therapy evaluation and interventions on an individualized resident basis per the request of the IBST and under the supervision of the Administrator
• Makes us of teamwork practices that include empowerment of staff, the provision of clear and concise information regarding occupational therapy, particularly as the practice impacts the health of the residents served
• Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective relationships and communications within the program
• Provides clinical supervision and training to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant if appropriate
• Participates as a member of the IBST and provides input
• Ensures that all documented policy and procedures are followed
• Provides assistive devices and adaptive equipment to facilitate independence
• Some limited travel may be required to assist other Telecare facilities
• Conducts and prepares written initial evaluation and continuing assessment of resident’s condition per IBSP
• Completes all Occupational Therapy documentation in the resident’s medical record
• Develops and coordinates the responsibilities of the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, if appropriate
• Develops and modifies treatment goals and objective consistent with identified needs of residents and in conjunction with the IBST
• Demonstrates an understanding of Telecare's customers including clients/residents, families and governmental agencies in all interactions and conduct
• Actively participates in meeting customer needs and adapting to changing customer needs at all times
• Participates and encourages participation from staff in activities as appropriate
• Adheres to standards defined by the American Association of Occupational Therapists which ensure safe and therapeutically effective care
• Assumes responsibility for professional growth
• Must assist with restraint of members served in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training
Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted and/or changed at the discretion of management.

Position requires transporting Members in program vehicle (acceptable driving record)

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy with current licensure or certification as required by state
• One (1) year experience in direct service to adults with developmental disabilities
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be CPR, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and First Aid certified on date of employment or within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment
• All opportunities at Telecare are contingent upon successful completion and receipt of acceptable results of the applicable post-offer physical examination, 2-step PPD test for tuberculosis, acceptable criminal background clearances, excluded party sanctions, and degree or license verification. Position requires driving, valid driver license, a motor vehicle clearance and proof of auto insurance is required at time of employment and must be maintained throughout employment. Additional regulatory, contractual or local requirements may apply

Preferred:
• Two (2) years’ experience in direct service to adults with developmental disabilities
• Knowledge of and experience working with adults with mental illness

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

The employee is occasionally required to sit, bend, squat, kneel and climb and lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds or less as well as to frequently walk, stand, twist, reach and do simple and power grasping. The position requires manual deviation, repetition and dexterity and to occasionally drive and be exposed to uneven walking ground as well as Hazardous Exposure (Blood Borne Pathogens, Hospital Waste, Chemical & Infectious). Visual requirements include computers and books exposure. The position requires constant talking and hearing throughout the work day. Must be alert to patient condition and environmental situations.
