Occupational Therapist - Full Time

This is a Full Time Position. SUMMARY:  Summary of Primary Responsibilities The licensed occupational therapist is responsible for the evaluation, treatment plan, treatment implementation, and supervision of treatment as ordered by a licensed physician or appropriate non-physician practitioner. Compliance with the practice act of Texas State Board of Occupational therapy, regulatory agencies, payer guidelines, and policies and procedures of the department is maintained through all levels and arenas of patient care.  All staff responsibilities include the provision of optimal patient care in a safe and appropriate manner, accurate and complete documentation, interdisciplinary collaborative care, and cooperative function of the department and the hospital district. ________________________________________________________________ Summary of Secondary Responsibilities                                                         The licensed occupational therapist is responsible for assisting with all other aspects of department function when primary responsibilities have been completed. These may include participation in quality control, performance improvement processes, staff development, compliance processes, program development, and assistance to other staff members for completion of their primary responsibilities. ________________________________________________________________ Work Area Assignment The licensed occupational therapist will be assigned a varied work schedule which may include hospital based programs, outpatient clinic programs, home health, or contract services.  Hospital based programs include outpatient wound, inpatient acute including wounds, outpatient nursing home, and extended care. The outpatient clinic programs include adult and pediatric musculoskeletal and neurological programs. Contract services include school based programs. As additional programs are developed or programs are transitioned to different sites, assignments may change. All staff is expected to remain flexible and develop competencies in all areas that are within the scope of services. ________________________________________________________________  Attitude and Behavior The licensed occupational therapist is expected to demonstrate attitudes and behavior consistent with professional duties, leadership role within the department, a pro-active approach to conflict resolution and problem solving, and flexible cooperation within the hospital district. ______________________________________________________________ Compliance The licensed occupational therapist must maintain compliance with practice act for occupational therapy as outlined by the Texas State Board of Occupational therapy examiners.  Compliance with regulatory agencies, payer guidelines, and the policies and procedures of MCHD and the department is expected. ______________________________________________________________ Provision of Patient Care The licensed occupational therapist is expected to provide all patient care in a safe, appropriate manner based on an age appropriate, diagnostic appropriate assessment in compliance with practice act, regulatory agencies, payer guidelines, and policies and procedures of MCHD and the department.  Collaboration with other staff and other care providers and patient education are included in the continuum of care. Provision of patient care includes appropriate supervision of all personnel who participate in the patient’s care and all contact within and outside of the hospital system in regards to the patient’s status and care. ________________________________________________________________ Documentation The licensed occupational therapist is responsible for accurate billing of patient services by documenting only the services received in compliance with the practice act, regulatory agencies, and payer guidelines. Documentation by the occupational therapist is expected to be complete, timely, concise, and accurate in compliance with the policies and procedures of the MCHD and the department.    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: BS, MS, or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy.   EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 3 to 5 years of clinical experience preferred but not required   LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Verification of current Occupational therapist License in Texas   OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Documentation of the need for any accommodation as required by ADA Basic keyboarding skills and word processing
