U.S. Citizens only Location: Dania Beach, FL Secret Clearance Work classification: W2, Full Time PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will join The Metamorphosis Group (TMG), working as an ocean engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center South Florida Ocean Measurement Facility, (SFOMF). In support of the U.S. Navy the SFOMF conducts Research Development Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) activities in the Atlantic Ocean adjacent to Fort Lauderdale, FL. SFOMF conceives of, designs, builds, deploys systems used in the conduct of at-sea testing. The work is in support of development and implementation new equipment concepts and improved methods of solving ocean dependent problems. The applicant will work as part of a design, test, and evaluation team and will also work with the team on designing and using ocean systems of their own creation. The applicant will be required to conceptualize components and assemblies utilizing their unique set of skills to solve problems related to the ocean engineering. The applicant shall support, lead, and manage projects that are electro-mechanical in nature that must consider the ocean environment in their design. The position is hands on and the applicant is expected to be knowledgeable in ocean systems design, fabrication, assembly and integration. While working independently or as part of a project team, the applicant will troubleshoot a variety electro-mechanical laboratory and field systems. The work requires the generation of formal design drawings and documentation using appropriate software tools. Develop project plans and test plans and conduct land/ocean based field tests/demonstrations of advanced sensor systems. Write test reports. Brief designs, test plans, and test reports to upper management and sponsors. Support at-sea testing by conducting ship checks, planning for deployment and recovery of systems, coordinating field test hardware and shipping, and maintaining and installing winches cranes, and other electro-mechanical equipment. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: + Minimum Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering or Electrical Engineering + 2 - 4 years of experience + Relevant experience with the Navy or other DoD laboratories is a plus SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: + Ability to apply diverse set of skills to solve complex problems related to Ocean Environment + Fluent in 2D/3D CAD Software (Solid Works or Inventor), Project, Power Point, MS Word & Excel + Working knowledge of OrcaFlex, FLUENT CFD, ANSYS, and/or MATLAB (a plus) + Ability to work in a team environment. + Demonstrated ability to communicate, both orally and in writing. + Assist with and lead offshore operations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: + Light lifting required during field tests. + Good physical condition, agility, dexterity and an ability to fully function in a shipboard, at-sea environment. + Ability to work in and around the site's facilities, buildings, structures, and waterfront. + Ability to climb ladders and stairways, lift and handle various types of marine equipment (max 40 lbs) while on and off various size vessels. + Ability to perform work in a wide variety of vessels; operate and/or ride on various types of small water crafts. + Perform challenging and unique OE work in inclement weather, i.e. hot temperatures, high humidity, and rough sea state. + Perform long hours in demanding at-sea environments (occasionally). + Perform work in/around shipboard deck equipment involving placement and recovery of large and possibly cumbersome objects over the ship's side. + May be required to participate in marine/ocean duties and have no aversion to getting on boats or similar vessels. + Must comply with standard operating procedures and follow all rules of safety requirements and safety equipment use to avoid hazardous and risky situations HAZARDOUS DUTY: + Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to perform installation and monitoring duties onboard ships and submarines. + Performs work at-sea, on board various types of vessels. + Exposure to the hazards of various HAZMATS, lead paint, asbestos, confined spaces, high voltages, heights, and noise. + Performs work in/around heavy equipment, while at sea in a shipboard environment. + Performs work in hot, humid and inclement weather both shore side and at-sea. + Ability to follow established operating and risk procedures with proper safety equipment will reduce the hardships and risks OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation a plus.
