Basic Qualifications

For this position to be successful, the incumbent should have:

A High School Diploma or GED, from an accredited institution.  Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.  Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment.  This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee. 

Preferred Qualifications

For this position to be successful, preference is given to candidates with: 

A Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited institution, in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related technical field. The ability to effectively communicate (verbally and written) and delegate while maintaining forward motion on key deliverables. A high degree of interpersonal skills to motivate and influence others, including those not under their direct supervision. Demonstrated ability of problem solving, systems thinking, project management, and team building.

Working Conditions

This position involves a varying degree of exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is normally performed in a shared work environment, divided between the shop floor and an atypical interior work space. While not exposed to hazardous materials, this position requires wearing full PPE to protect from mobile equipment and hot materials when on the shop floor. 

This position requires moderate physical activity, such as walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time. 

This position also requires a willingness to maintain flexible work schedule and be available 24/7.

 

Primary Purpose of Job

Howmet Aerospace Cleveland Operations, a forging facility located at 1600 Harvard Ave., is seeking an Off-Shift Supervisor to join its Operations Department. Under the direction of the Plant Operations Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing the Production and Maintenance activities that occur during either the 3rd shifts (11PM – 7AM) by being an integral member of the help chain in the areas of Safety, Delivery, and Continuous Improvement. The Superintendent sets expectations, audits performance, counsels Production Supervisors, trains, acts as a role model, and influences policies and practices to exceed set departmental goals. Direct reports include all Operations Supervisors assigned to the incumbent’s respective shift. The incumbent communicates continually with Operations Supervisors, Maintenance Supervisors, and Process Engineers.  

Accountability Objectives

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Engaging the resources at their disposal to meet the focused area’s objectives as set by the Operations Manager in support of the forging business. These objectives will be achieved without sacrificing a spirit of cooperation with other areas, so as not to detrimentally impact the vitality of Cleveland Operations.  Developing manufacturing operating plans in accordance with company policies, goals, and objectives.  Linking established processes and leadership to the areas of Environment, Health, and Safety to sustain the company’s proud legacy of attention to safety, the environment, and the communities in which it exists.  Delivering determined financial objectives by reaffirming existing production goals, or setting new goals, to lead the team to a realization of these goals.  Developing and executing lean and flexible production systems based on ABS techniques across all manufacturing operations to lower the plant’s breakeven point.  Executing plans for quality and process excellence to ensure consistent process compliance in terms of procedures, controls, and feedback.  Ensuring that adequate people development plans and succession plans are in place.  Developing the skills and abilities of direct reports as realized through technical expertise, guidance, support, coaching, counseling, and leadership in the day-to-day activities.  Performing other duties as assigned.
