Job Description:
The Office and Technical Assistant (Academic) plays a critical role in promoting, planning, and executing departmental events and rehearsals and providing programmatic and curricular support for the Departments of Literary Arts and Music.
In conjunction with the Literary Arts Department managers, the incumbent provides logistical and publicity support for program outreach and development to lectures, recitals, seminars, and presentations of work by renowned guest writers and research scholars. The assistant collaborates with invited speakers and guests, alumni, faculty, staff, and students at Brown University, vendors, program stakeholders, and University events management to ensure that events are appropriately supported and that visitor needs and requirements are met. The incumbent will also provide audio and visual support for the recording and videotaping of events. Responsibilities also include responding to program inquiries, assisting with reports, communications, and databases, and providing general administrative support for the daily operations of the departments. The ideal candidate will have the experience and aptitude to provide high-quality technical support for the audio and visual needs in a theater and music environment.
In the Music Department, the Academic Office and Technical Assistant will provide technical and AV support for music department classrooms, performance spaces, labs and studios, and events under the supervision of the technical director (TD). They will assist with the maintenance, development, and upkeep of department classroom, lab, and studio spaces - routinely checking equipment to ensure functionality. In coordination with department office staff and TD, they will respond to department service requests and problem reports for AV and music technology equipment. They will provide training on the use of classroom, lab, and studio AV/Music technology equipment to faculty, staff, and students and help provide access to portable equipment. They will periodically take on special media projects and special requirements for courses and events, including setup, configuration, and operation of installed and portable AV and music technology equipment and AV production/editing.
This position is located on-site and requires some work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
This position is a 10-month position, from August/September through May/June.
Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree with 2-3 years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.One year of experience working with audio, recording, or theatrical equipment and spaces is preferred.Interest and aptitude in working with audio, recording, and theatrical equipment and spaces required.Ability, interest, and aptitude using media, audio, and music technology. Demonstrated interpersonal skills.Proficient in Microsoft and Google software.Good communication skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of constituencies.Ability to react positively to evolving circumstances.Demonstrated commitment to supporting a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environmentAll offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University.
