GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Inter-library Loan Technician assists in the daily inter-library loan duties. This position assists in the physical processing of library materials being added or removed from the State Library's collection and ensures they are discoverable and accessible by patrons and staff. This position supports digitization programs. The Inter-library Loan Technician will spend a significant amount of time staffing the reference desk to support direct patron calls, emails, and queries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
+ Lead worker uses inter-library loan software to manage item borrowing and lending requests between libraries for state employees. Provide support and training with minimal supervision for state-wide inter-library loan software.
+ Manage State Library serial records and items. Create and attach call number labels and property stamp items. Maintain holdings information in the integrated library system.
+ Maintain WSL patron database in the integrated library system circulation database. Lead in adding new patron records.
+ Lead worker in processing all incoming and outgoing agency mail. Maintain an adequate inventory of frequently used office supplies. Order supplies for special projects when requested.
+ Provide service desk support, and direct reference questions to appropriate librarians for state agencies, libraries, and library patrons.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with previous customer service experience.
Preference may be given to applicants with cataloging experience.
Preference may be given to applicants familiar with common library practices of book processing and inter-library loan.
Preference may be given to applicants who have used any integrated library system software.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Knowledge of office procedures, filing, alphabetizing, English language, and arithmetic.
+ Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
+ Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and email programs.
+ Knowledge of Google Suite.
+ Knowledge of assembling, sorting, and distributing documents.
+ Knowledge of reviewing and editing documents for accuracy and completeness.
+ Knowledge of methods used to deal with the public tactfully.
+ Knowledge of telephone etiquette and coordinating telephone and visitor traffic.
+ Knowledge of preparation of records, reports, and correspondence.
+ Knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
+ Knowledge of library classification systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School Diploma
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications)
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications)

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
+ Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
