Office Engineer

DESCRIPTION
This is a field level office position performing a variety of construction support tasks for the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Facility. Specific duties depend on job assignments and may include serving as project technician for construction and maintenance projects; coordinating schedules and activities; administrative activities related to contracts, traffic control plans; and project planning related services. This includes assisting other team members along with consultant personal in the preparation and processing of a large volume of correspondence and construction documents. Employees in some positions in this classification do not supervise but may serve as lead workers. Work is performed under the general supervision of an engineer or higher-level technical employee. Work conditions vary depending on assignments and are performed in the office and requires walking, standing and bending, and efficient operation of computers and other office machines. The job duties may include but are not limited to:

Assist in managing numerous contracts for the Maryland Transportation Authority Assist in establishing cost, schedule and performance baselines for the MDTA contracts Reviews and approves Inspector's Daily Reports into Electronic Maryland Construction Management System (eMCMS) Communicate contract success and issues through monthly progress meetings with management Approve and processes invoices monthly for services, time and materials to each contractor Tracks the status of contracts and ensures compliance within all the contract documents Implement best practices and processes for tracking and managing contract change orders Estimates future pay-outs based on the progression of work Reviews and tracks Quality Control forms for specific operations Maintains organized and detailed project records to include schedule, resources, and material Tracks and maintains all project construction correspondence, in an orderly manner Work closely with multiple levels of management and staff to include State Directors, multiple Contractor companies, State Inspectors and support staff. Other duties as assigned.
 

 

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid driver's license and clean driving record. GED or High School diploma. 2 - 4 years of related experience preferred. Excellent English language skills, written and verbal Ability to work independently without much guidance. Detail oriented, organized, and multitasker. Ability to engage and communicate effectively (written and verbal) with stakeholders at all levels. Positive attitude toward continuous process improvement. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows/Office and working with PDF software preferred. Understanding of construction projects, document control systems (eMCMS and ProjectSolve), and general accounting a plus, but not required. No licenses or certifications are required for this position.

 

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $19.24/hr. to $26.26/hr.  This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.  Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
