Provides engineering assistance developing project plans, designs, or traffic engineering studies and other related documents, field experience with traffic signals and ITS hardware, cost estimates and other engineering technical reports for transportation projects. Provides training, support and knowledge sharing to other engineers. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: · Under limited supervision, manages and reviews the work of lower-level engineers and consultants in the design and preparation of complete plans for the maintenance rehabilitation of bridges, box culverts and other highway structures. May provide engineering solutions for bridge rehabilitation to both internal and external customers. Reviews and checks the work of group members or consultants. May prepare and monitor office budget. May prepare cost analyses on Federal Aid projects. · As part of managing the program, the job responsibilities include managing task orders, coordinating with project and program managers, assist in identifying projects, and coordinating with the district offices. · Additional Information: Assists in management of bridge maintenance projects. Under limited supervision, serves as a consultant liaison engineer managing, instructing and reviewing the work of consultant engineers, lower-level liaison engineers, and technicians. May assist in organizing data for and preparing of displays for public hearings. Attends and facilitates concept meetings and public hearings. Provides engineering solutions to design problems that arise. Ensures accuracy of Department’s project information/schedule system and updates as needed. Reviews bridge preservation/rehabilitation projects performed by consulting engineering firms. Must also be familiar with all projects assigned to the Bridge Maintenance Unit. Assists in coordinating the delivery of environmental certifications for Bridge Maintenance projects. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications. STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology, engineering with a civil specialization, construction engineering or other engineering/engineering technology field of study and two (2) years of job-related experience and a Professional Engineer (PE) License. · OR Professional Engineer (PE) License with two (2) years of job-related experience. Note: Additionally, foreign degrees require a completed Equivalency Evaluation by NCEES along with an official transcript. AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: · Demonstrated experience applying engineering principles in the development of plans for highway bridges and structures. · Possesses advanced knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and techniques. · Familiarity with the Departments Plan Development Process. · Understands the environmental certification process. · Possesses knowledge of design specifications. · Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of structural plans. · Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing design notes for highway structures. · Demonstrates experience planning, supervising, and evaluating the work of subordinates and promoting a positive environment. · Experience working and communicating with supervisors, subordinates, local officials, engineering consultants, other DOT Offices, and the general public to meet their needs. · Displays a high standard of ethical conduct. · Demonstrates strong problem solving skills with the ability to develop new insight into situations. · Demonstrated experience to make sound, well-informed decisions. · Demonstrated experience to analyze and formulate solutions. · Committed to providing quality customer service. AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: · Knowledge of the organizational structure, policies, rules, and regulations of the Georgia Department of Transportation. · Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
