About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Purpose
Our Lihir operation in the HSE, Emergency Response is now recruiting for the role of Officer – Emergency. Reporting to the Supervisor – HSE, Emergency Response, the successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the ERT Supervisor and is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operation of ERT and ensuring efficient and quick responses to fire and emergency service incidents. Responsible for mentoring and coaching trainee officers, assisting with administrative work planning, organizing, conducting, coordinating, and directing the fire & rescue training schedules and activities of ERT.
The role will have the following responsibilities but are not limited to:Works by PNG Mine Safety Act, Newmont Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures Environment policies and all departmental operating proceduresWorks constructively with a diverse group of people and within ERT crewsDelivers consistently on commitments and takes accountability for own developmentPreparedness and giving your best, promoting teamwork, displaying consistent professional and acceptable behaviour with the ability to provide strong clear communications within the team and to stakeholdersAct and oversee daily inspection and maintenance of mobile emergency response equipment (fixed infrastructure is a maintenance function)Provide ongoing daily services in inspecting, installing, fault-finding/troubleshooting, repairing and testing mechanical equipment on the mobile fleet as requiredEnsure documentation, maintenance and service records for equipment are complete and kept up to dateGive confidence to all stakeholders when performing emergency response duties to protect life, equipment, business assets, community and the environmentProvide consistent support to the ERT Trainees/Officers/Supervisor/Coordinator to act in extended duties positions/succession planning and development of end-of-shift reports/daily handover meetings, Rescue Plans, Drill reports, debriefs and submitting evidence to database systemsQualification, Training & Experience
Minimum level of Grade 10 education R1130715 Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue Certificate in Aviation Rescue & Fire Fighting5+ years of relevant working experience in emergency response and rescue (Marine Rescue & Firefighting)Previous firefighting experience and aviation fire and rescueCertificate II in Occupational Emergency CareCertificates in emergency management in marine Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomouslyExcellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlinesBe open to constructive conversation take feedback as improvement and communicate or share learningsWorking Conditions
Must be open to FIFO in PNGAbility to complete a pre-employment medical assessmentMust have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months
