About Lihir

 

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose

 

Our Lihir operations Asset Protection Team is recruiting for the position of Officer Product Security for a FIFO role based onsite. 

Reporting to the Supervisor Product - Security, you will be required to operate as a security operations team member to control entry and exit to Newmont mine site and other properties, prevent loss and damage to Newmont assets and to ensure the safety and protection of all employees and Newmont contractor personnel.
 

Essential Duties

 

The role will have responsibility to:

Actively leads and influences proactive safety behaviours within the team and others, ensuring compliance with site and contractual HSE and security requirements for all personnel, visitors, and contractors.Directs and supervises security personnel to prevent unauthorized access to the mine site, plant, and other properties of Newmont.Monitors access and egress to prevent loss and damage to Newmont property.Conducts emergency responses safely, effectively, and timely.Maintains site security systems and alarms according to maintenance and inspection schedules.Adheres to the Newmont Code of Conduct and Newmont Values and Principles.Conducts daily foot patrols.Communicates and reports KPIs related to the job role as per established procedures.Executes and delivers reports on fundamental security requirements, including security surveys, operating procedures, and field-level risk assessments.Possesses knowledge of gold production circuits to protect against theft, monitor activity, and provide reports.Operates CCTV surveillance systems.Sets and responds to alarms.Demonstrates knowledge of security industry and PNG legislation related to human rights, use of force, powers of arrest, and trespass.Physically fit to complete foot patrols in full PPE under challenging and extreme weather conditions and participate in airfield security operations.Participates in site security verification activities and conducts low-level investigations (security audit and compliance).Demonstrates skills in radio telephone procedures and operates basic technical security equipment such as guard tour systems and monitoring and tracking devices.

 

Training & Experience

 

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;

Minimum of Grade 12 Education.Relevant asset protection / security certification essential.Demonstrated practical experience in a security role relating to the resources industry.A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the security industry (Police or defence Force service is desirable).Experience in Gold Mining Product Security.The candidate must have a valid PNG Driver's License - Class 6 to apply for this position.Reporting: Proficient in security surveys, operating procedures, and field-level risk assessments.Incident Reporting: Skilled in writing factual, chronological incident reports.Administration: Capable of compiling and submitting timesheets for contract workforce.Legislation Knowledge: Familiar with PNG laws on human rights, use of force, powers of arrest, and trespass.Moderate level of computer literacy and working knowledge of Word and Excel.Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution.

 

 

The Requirement

 

Must be available for FIFO to LihirAbility to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
