Job DescriptionThe goal of this role is to protect and promote the environment, health and safety of all employees and the community in which we operate, plans and directs environmental, safety and health activities at site level. Plans, evaluates, implements, and coordinates programs to reduce or eliminate occupational hazards which could result in injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses. This position is also committed to quality through each co-worker, our system, and in our processes and products. The primary mission of this role will be developing and executing an integrated manufacturing strategy, which reliably delivers low cost, high quality products in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
Responsibilities:
Provides technical environment, safety and health support and information to the site.
Ensures compliance with Amcor Standards and governmental agencies to include OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Routinely conducts Risk Assessments, audits, inspections and analysis to ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance, prepares action plans, and works with appropriate individuals to ensure successful completion.
Collects data, analyzes trends, gaps, etc. and makes recommendations for the plant EHS initiatives.
Performs and completes risk analyses on processes and equipment.
Assists in monitoring contractors and construction activities to ensure safe work practices are being followed.
Develops and monitors emergency action plans.
Coordinates all Emergency Preparedness Response (EPR) plans to ensure safe and effective evacuation and medical attention. Maintains liaison with outside organizations, including the local fire department.
Prepares written policies and procedures, recommends changes to prevent accidents and illness.
Enforces use of safety equipment, and counsels co-workers to ensure compliance with regulations.
Examines plans and specifications for new equipment to determine if all safety requirements have been included. Makes recommendations to ensure all new equipment complies with all safety and environmental requirements/regulations.
Investigates accidents and prepares accident reports. Develop solutions and recommendations to prevent recurrence. Monitors injury rates and Worker’s Compensation claims. Manages and maintains OSHA 300 and 300A log.
Facilitates safety training or obtains outside consultants to perform training i.e. lock-out/tag-out, waste (RCRA), HazComm and other procedures and annual required training.
Facilitates forklift training to operators to qualify for licensing and ensures all operators complete drug screens according to company policy.
Responsible for the management of all environmental and health-related issues, such as water and air pollution.
Conducts or directs testing of air quality and noise levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations. Maintains and calibrates instruments.
Manages and coordinates company required annual safety and audiometric testing.
Recommend and manage all safety PPE needs, including, but not limited to: issue prescription eyewear and safety shoe vouchers, order and control PPE and janitorial supplies.
Maintain all OHSE communication boards and documents.
Assists management to prepare the annual safety and health budget.
Lead local OHSE Safety Team, including, act as project manager on OHSE specific projects..
Any and all other tasks and projects as requested by management.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Environmental Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years experience or a minimum of 10 years OHSE experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 (OSHAS 18001) is highly desirable.
Must have proficient skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Power Point)
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task.
Physical Demands:
• This position may require prolonged periods of sitting, stooping, standing, and/or reaching, balancing,
climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, hearing and speaking.
• Manual dexterity is required and ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
• Must be able to travel domestic and international.
