Job Overview:
Do you love solving puzzles, having interesting conversations and never being bored at work?
If so Oliver Wyman is seeking an Australia based, Talent Manager to work within the APR Talent Management team. You will focus on our Energy, Government and Transport practices. While you will be based in Australia your consultant group is diverse and based across Asia Pacific.
The successful candidate will be responsible understanding supply (Consultants) and demand (project pipeline), for building relationships with their consultants and projects to understanding requirements, skills, preferences and matching these with projects needs.
You will be responsible for all data relating to your group including maintaining accurate records in our staffing system, support the Consultant Performance Management (mid-year and year end performance review processes) and the resource management processes (timesheet chasing and remediation, managing the project reviews for your practices).
You will also support ad hoc Talent Management and Human Resources projects as they arise, they would include among other things Capacity Management, Togetherness, Work Life Quality, Mental Health and Wellness.
Our ideal candidate will be curious, be able to proactively, delicately and empathetically balance the needs of the business alongside the preferences, career goals and development needs of the consultants to deliver appropriate staffing and talent management outcomes. You will work in a tight knit team against demanding timelines to help deliver Oliver Wyman’s business model.
Key Responsibilities:
Talent Management:
Develop relationships with each consultant and begin to be seen as a trusted advisor
Assist in directing consultants towards resources for career advice
Monitor work-life-quality issues and escalate when needed
Collaborate with Talent Management Lead to managing the pyramid, training, onboarding, performance improvement initiatives
Project Staffing:
Ensure we have the right person doing the right work – to do that you will need to:
Understand at a high-level the nuances of the type of work / roles being filled, collecting all relevant details from Partners and Practice Group TMs on projects to be staffed
Work closely with the Core Consultant Group (CCG) staffing team and Talent Managers to secure talent for your projects while also balancing the needs of the business and individual.
Anticipate capacity issues and manage consultants' and Partner expectations accordingly
Manage all resource allocating for non billable work such as Business Development, Intellectual Capital and internal projects
Communicate staffing outcomes to consultants under your TM purview in an empathetic manner
Track mobility issues, holidays, trainings, background checks and other ad-hoc staffing enabling tasks
Work to tight SLA’s to ensure that all projects are staffed in a timely way
Consultant Development and Performance Management:
Understand consultant performance, skills and development needs to facilitate a smooth staffing process and support their growth
Understand the performance management framework and competency model and how it applies to your own consultant's situations
Read all performance appraisals and follow-up any issues / performance flags with project team and manager
Coordinate, attend and contribute to annual Career Review meetings in for own consultant populations
Data, analysis and reporting:
Review weekly utilization reports, cross reference with staffing system to ensure latest information is captured, following p with relevant people if the data is not accurate
Assist with the assembly of the project pipeline and consultant availability reports
Help to prepare documents and exhibits for various senior leadership meetings (using Excel and PowerPoint)
Assist with the analysis of performance outcome results
Ad hoc analyses and reporting as needed
Demonstrate capability in using enterprise resource management tools and performance systems
Maintain all employee records and keep resource planning systems up to date
Prepare key weekly reports
Oliver Wyman Development:
Participate in project work within and adjacent to the broader Human Capital function on topics such as employee experience, retention, benefits, flexible working, utilization, performance, etc.
Organize own work and display ability to guide colleagues in building project deliverables
Work on cross-Practice Group, Market, Regional teams to deliver special / ad-hoc assignment in a collaborative manner
Be a firm citizen and embody Oliver Wyman values in day-to-day activities
Display a strong willingness to learn more about OW outside of the TM function by seeking out opportunities for broader involvement
Experience Required:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
3-5 years of relevant professional experience in a fast-paced and dynamic client services business environment
Management consulting and/or Human Resources experience preferred
Skills and Attributes:
Proven ability to establish and grow relationships at all levels within an organization
Credible, highly professional, able to communicate and negotiate effectively while managing diverse personalities, cultures and backgrounds – not afraid to escalate when something is not working out
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to tailor the message to fit the audience
Self-motivated and proactive; someone who takes full ownership of her/his work and is flexible to prioritize or reprioritize as needed
Comfortable working with data (excel, powerpoint and enterprise resource management software)
Creative, strategic thinker who continually seeks ways to improve processes
Genuinely interested in the development and career success of the consultants with whom you work
A strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy is required to juggle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously; as well as the ability to organize, prioritize and manage one’s day and schedule to effectively to meet deadlines
Comfortable working independently, but can thrive in a team setting; all while working in a fast-paced environment
