Description
ICF seeks to hire an on-call Biomarker Specialist to assist low and middle income countries with the biomarker and laboratory components of their household surveys. This on-call position will be based in ICF’s Rockville, MD office in the Washington, DC metro area and can be remote or hybrid. Travel to low and middle income countries may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Training consultants, in-country trainers, and field staff on the following:
Data collection tools, blood and other specimen collection procedures, and monitoring field work.
The use and application of rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) and point-of-care devices for the measurement of anemia, HIV, malaria, hepatitis B, diabetes markers, blood pressure, sexually transmitted infections, etc.
Anthropometry including planning standardization exercises and serving as the gold-standard measurer during such exercises.
Preparing manuals and other training documents and materials for use in specific surveys.
Training and supervision of in-country laboratories to conduct assays or procedures that cannot be conducted in the field. Testing will include but is not limited to HIV, hepatitis B, malaria microscopy, and micronutrients.
Developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to new biomarker tests and/or that enhance data quality of existing biomarkers.
A successful biomarker specialist will be able to train in person or remotely and demonstrate a high level of flexibility in performing all other responsibilities of the position.
Required Qualifications:
A master’s degree or PhD in a biomedical science or a related medical degree
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the following skills:
Familiarity with field-friendly specimen collection techniques.
Working knowledge and/or practical experience performing enzyme immunoassays.
Familiarity with molecular tests and molecular biology techniques.
Experience working with low- and middle-income country institutions.
Experience performing QC and QA measures in all phases of biomedical testing.
Fluency in English.
Preferred Skills:
Fluency in French, Portuguese, or Spanish.
Experience teaching or training adults.
Skilled in phlebotomy.
Working knowledge of the preparation, staining and examination of blood films for the detection of malaria parasites.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$89,203.00 - $151,646.00Maryland Remote Office (MD99)
