On-Call Digital Video Producer / Editor
The On-Call Digital Video Producer / Editor is a multimedia journalist with expertise at creating original and creative video and digital content while delivering a topnotch audience experience.  Specifically, the On-Call Digital Video Producer / Editor produces and directs, shoots and edits high-quality KQED digital video for distribution on multiple platforms, and when needed, originates and researches story ideas.  The On-Call Digital Video Producer / Editor is equipped to participate in all aspects of video production -- from originating the story’s initial concept and pitching, to researching the story, to field production and post production. The producer excels at one-person productions, as well as working part of a crew, and directing talent and on occasion crew members as well as editors and other creative collaborators.  This position must have excellent producing, storytelling, A/V media production, cinematography, editing and motion graphic skills.  The ideal candidate is a multimedia journalist who has experience with video as a producer as well as an editor, videographer or as an independent filmmaker.  Proven collaboration skills are essential in working with fellow KQED team members and with partners.  This is an on-call, part-time, temporary position. This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters (https://www.kqed.org/campaign21) and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Salary Information: $45.88 - $57.35 an hour Essential Functions:   + Creates original, compelling, and creative multimedia video content that informs and engages our audience. + Originates and develops unique story ideas and treatments for video projects. + Writes scripts.  + Edits footage of other video content creators  + Creates basic animation and motion graphic elements as needed. + Creates unique promotional videos and teasers to reflect the video work of the unit for use internally and externally + Scouts locations and pre-interviews subjects + Helps to develop and establish a unique and consistent video style and voice for KQED Digital Video productions + Researches stories that can include locating and securing third party footage  + Conducts on-camera interviews + Shoots UHD/HD video and records audio for video productions + Arranges on-location shoots, incl. logistics and permissions + Secures rights clearances compliant with KQED’s requirements regarding terms and conditions  + Performs editing duties, including sound design, color correction, packaging and transcoding, as needed + Participates as a production crew member for other producers and directors, as needed + Directs talent on camera, and on occasion, on-call crew members and editors  + Travel and work on location  + Help pitch and develop new video series, properties and special projects for KQED DV + Provides information for music cue sheets and production files + Prepares web video compressions, segment thumbnail images, animated gifs and any other related assets. + Meets deliverables within budget and deadlines + Work with animators, illustrators and composers on additional media elements as needed PROJECT- / SERIES-SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS The On-call DV Producer / Editor will be assigned to work on multiple video production projects as needed.  These productions would potentially  include programs within the Digital Video department as well as projects for other KQED Content departments including Podcast and News. All productions will run through the Digital Video department and will be overseen by Digital Video management staff.   Knowledge/Experience Required: + Minimum of two years’ experience as Producer or Field Producer in media, preferably public media or through other informal institutions.  + Ability to independently (shoot, write, edit) and collaboratively work with KQED DV  teams + Proven ability to edit, with limited supervision, short format documentary style segments + Experience troubleshooting edit issues, transcoding media, performing minor color correcting, and media wrangling and archiving + Proven ability to set up, light, record audio and shoot video for short format style segments in quick turnaround situations + Experience with a wide range of cameras, lenses and related equipment + Experience with social media and web distribution + Knowledge of basic journalistic editorial principles, ethics and standards. + A passion for the arts scene and demonstrable experience covering the Bay Area  + Demonstrable collaboration skills and experience cultivating sources and partnerships + Ability to represent KQED to the community, other institutions, and the general public Knowledge/Experience Desired + A compelling visual style and personal voice + Experience with a variety of video cameras  + Advanced motion graphic skills  + Expertise in filmmaking + B.A./B.S. degree Powered by JazzHR
