On-Call Medical Technologist/Technical Aide
Position Summary(Basic Job Function) This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include medical patient care; medical equipment maintenance, repair, or operation; or other medical-technological support functions. Unit Position Summary The medical technologist will perform, analyze and evaluate complex laboratory testing in order to obtain data for use by healthcare providers in the diagnosis of patients. Must be able to perform lab tests on specimens, complete maintenance and calibration of lab equipment; evaluate testing results and follow procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens. Desired Qualifications Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Medical Technology and one year internship at an approved institution laboratory; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, urinalysis and coagulation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and certification as a Medical Technologist or eligible as MT(ASCP). Ideal candidate would possess experience working in a medical laboratory including interaction with physicians and nursing staff regarding the reporting and interpretation of test results. Candidate needs to exhibit strong customer service skills as related to instructing patients in requirements of specimen collection.
