Oncology Data Specialist, Oncology Support
Overview Oncology Data Specialist, Oncology Support, Remote - 20 hours / 2 weeks - This is a hybrid position. The Oncology Data Specialist 1 is responsible for case-finding duties, suspense and follow-up functions in accordance with the requirements and standards of the regulatory and accrediting agencies. This position also serves as the primary conference coordinator for all Oncology related presentations/conferences, including data reporting. Performs other duties as assigned. Identifies reportable cases and suspends in accordance with Cancer Registry policy. Performs lifetime follow-up to provide cancer incidence, treatment and outcome information. Coordinates and prepares all Oncology conferences and educational presentations, including: calendar and schedules, case requests, agenda development and distribution, physician and staff notification, imaging and pathology requests, summation reports, data management and reporting as it relates to all conferences. Utilizes all available resources/ online tools for input of accurate information (e.g. CA Forum, Multiple Primary & Histology coding, Hematopoietic Coding Manual, COC, SEER,) seeks guidance from supervisor as needed Maintains efficiency, quality and accuracy rates as defined per Cancer Registry policy and standards. Participation in Cancer Committee meetings, presentations and minutes preparation. Assists with maintaining the Cancer Registry Policy and Procedure Manual. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, assist with department quality assurance and improvement plan as directed by Supervisor. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading applicable literature and participating in seminars and conferences. Applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of responsibilities Observes and contributes to Commission on Cancer (CoC) survey preparation and the survey process. Skills and Abilities •Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. •Analytic skills necessary to assess, interpret, retrieve and analyze data from medical records. •Demonstrates inter-personal skills with ability to interact effectively and professionally with physician and hospital staff. •Ability to work independently and efficiently. •Demonstrates accountability for performance and initiative for professional growth. •Exceptionally well-organized with demonstrated ability to prioritize and track multiple projects. •Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills. •Excellent verbal and written communication skills. •Demonstrates advanced computer skills. Education and Experience Minimum Associate's Degree in a science or health-related field is preferred. 3+ years clinical medical experience is preferred. Ability to understand, analyze and interpret medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. Analytic skills necessary to accurately interpret diagnoses and assess, retrieve and analyze data from medical records. Certification/Licensure Must obtain Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification within 3 years of start of employment Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
