We have comprehensive and established clinical and non-clinical programmes for training, development and CPD. You can find us in Hampshire, just south of Winchester, close to the M3 and national and international transport links. We are in a serene countryside setting with state-of-the-art facilities and are available to look after pets 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our mission is to create an inspiring, inclusive, professional environment where the team are empowered to work together to consistently deliver exceptional care and service. **Your role and responsibilities** + Chemo consults Regular client contact, assessing the patients and writing clinical history. + Chemo administration After full training, you will calculate and administer chemotherapy to patients following a set protocol. + Staging/ and re staging (imaging) Assist in planning and monitoring sedation/ General anaesthesia for oncology patient staging. + Admin duties Writing and emailing referring vets with report updates. Answering email enquiries from clients and referring vets. Telephone owners for updates Stock control Costing appointment and procedures As part of the Oncology nursing team, you will have a varied role within the discipline which will often overlap with other areas. You will get to regularly meet the clients and the lovely patients, get the opportunity to do follow up chemotherapy consultations. This is very rewarding as you get to see the owners regularly and build a relationship with them and most importantly their pet. This is when you check how they are getting on at home, make sure that the animal is tolerating the chemotherapy and make sure that there are no adverse effects. You will get to learn all the chemotherapy protocols for common cancers, learn how they are given and if they are well tolerated. You will also learn the common side effects and be able to discuss with the owners how to monitor for these and treatment of side effects. You will be involved with helping stage new/ existing cases. Follow cases through imaging and still preparing sedations and anaesthesia. This will involve admitting and discharges cases and being an important member of the team involved closely with the cases. Chemotherapy cases require blood samples and intravenous catheters, which you will be responsible for. Also calculating, preparing and administering chemotherapy after full training. There will be some telephone/ email duties contacting clients if they have queries or concerns and liaising with the clinician in charge to assist them with their workload. You will also assist in giving thorough handovers to evening staff of any inpatients staying overnight. Making sure they are happy with any protocol and after care required. Any specific patient requirements to be communicated. This is a hugely rewarding and varied role, we are one of few disciplines where we get to see our lovely patients regularly. Experience in referral nursing is preferred, however not essential.
