Summary:
Provides both inpatient and outpatient coding education to providers, staff. Is an expert in Medical and Pediatric Oncology charge and audit process. Assists with price file maintainance. Acts as a liason between department staff and the PAS/Revenue Cycle team in resolving discrepancies with billing errors. Has extensive knowlegde of the pharmacuetical area. Has the ability to train and provide daily assistance with the charge capture and coding of Medical, Pediatric, Pallative, Behavioral, Orthopedic, IP, and Breast Surgical areas. Will be responsible for ICD-10 implemenation in the clinic. Will assist Business Manager by serving as a resource to the business office staff. Must be organized and have the ability to research and understand clinical documentation while sharing knowledge with all necessary clinic staff as well as outside auditors and insurance companies.
Responsibilities:
+ Works and communicates in a cooperative, timely, respectful manner with management, supervisory staff, coworkers, and other health care personnel when providing information services, seeking assistance and/or clarification in resolving problems.
+ Notifies Manager promptly of necesary changes in task and/or workflow.
+ Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with both clinical and non clinical staff.
+ Must be able to prioritize workload while assisting and directing the billing, coding, prior authorization staff.
+ Seeks appropriate source (manager, plan , policy) when questions arise.
+ Avoids excessive socializing on a personal level.
+ Actively participates in problem solving work groups to assist in resolving departmental and section quality issues. Participates in a positive and cooperative manner during coding section mtgs/educational conferences.
+ Participates in review and revision of job description as well as review and revision of policies and procedures, quality and productivity standards relative to duties inherent in job functions at least yearly.
+ Special Projects assigned from Executive Director, Business Manager or Compliance Officer.
+ Maintain the accuracy of the Evaluation & Management coding audit sheets.
+ Ability to work independently, make decisions and find solutions.
+ Must be an effective positive influence on all staff.
+ Work with PAS Dept to resolve patient complaints or insurance denials as re coding.
+ Work with PAS Dept on the Quic Report for diagnoses-research, fix errors, educate as needed on coding.
+ Has expert knowledge of the 3M Coding & Abstracting system.
+ Development and maintenance of Coding Training Manuals for providers and charge entry.
+ Communicates appropriate information to coworkers and supervisor in a timely, accurate manner.
+ Must be familiar with PCs and able to work with multiple technical systems simultaneously.
+ Conduct Monthly Cross audit meetings with affiliated providers, being Pallative Care, Behavior Health, Orthopedic Oncology, Breast Surgical Practice, Radiation, Pediatric, and Medical Oncology.
+ Performs documentation reviews, including ICD-9-CM, CPT & E/M coding, billing and regulatory compliance for third party payors and current outpatient and physician reimbursement methodologies.
+ Perform Quarterly audits and reports to Manager.
+ Assist in updating the price file for each office updating CPT and ICD-9 on a yearly basis.
+ Audit charges (CPT and ICD-9 codes) and provide feedback to providers and charge entry personnel.
+ Attends the vendor seminars offered to maintain and expand his/her working knowledge of the system.
+ Assist in keeping the Accounts Receivable report under $2 million combined.
+ Communicates necessary information required to Patient Account Services and Revenue Cycle Consultants.
+ Attends compliance meetings and adds educational content for coding staff.
+ Maintains required continuing education requirements and membership in the AAPC local and national chapter.
+ Provides coding material to staff/clinicians on pertinent new treatments and procedures.
+ Conduct training for new hires on posting and coding.
+ Educate new providers on E/M documentation and coding, CPT, ICD-9 coding.
+ Assists in developing training material for cross training of the clinic coders in all related areas within the Oncology Clinics.
+ Completes I-care requirements within the time constraint allowed.
Other Information:
+ High School Diploma with 10 years of experience in healthcare business office.
+ + Preferred Education and/or training in medical billing/coding, with post secondary education in business or healthcare.
+ + Certification requirements CPC, CHONC, ROCC and/or CRCP-I recommended or willingness to acquire with two years of employment.
