**POSITION TITLE:** Open Rank, Clinical Faculty Appointment, (The Woodlands - Houston Area Location) **DEPARTMENT:** Head and Neck Surgery **DIVISION:** Surgery **REPORTS TO:** Department Chair **MISSION STATEMENT** The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. **FUNCTION** This is a faculty position responsible to the Chairman of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery who reports to the Head of the Division of Surgery. **SCOPE** Provides clinical expertise for patients referred for care at the following satellite facility practice settings: Methodist Woodlands and St. Luke's Woodlands. Provides care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents and students in the specialty of head and neck surgery. **KEY FUNCTIONS** I . Clinical A. Practice clinical surgery in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Surgeons, properly balanced with other academic activities. 1. Develop and maintain a clinical head and neck surgery practice for head and neck surgical patients referred to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. a. Provide physician staffing for the outpatient head and neck surgery clinic and the inpatient head and neck service at a level commensurate of that which would be provided by other head and neck surgeons with the same level of training and experience. This will include having the mental and physical dexterity required for performing complex surgical operations on patients afflicted with head and neck disease. b. Visually review for proper CPT coding and approve all surgical procedure charge documents within 5 working days. c. Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional policy. Will require dictating in a clear and concise manner, and visual review of documents. d. Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with referring physicians regarding patient care and treatment. e. Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty. This will require listening to and assimilating information from the conferences. f. Request appropriate medical consultations for head and neck patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians. 2. Provide a role model in head and neck surgery as a practitioner for faculty, fellows and residents and students rotating on the service. 3. Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department. II. Administration A. Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings which may include walking to each meeting site. Listen to deliberations and provide verbal feedback as necessary. Visually review all documents pertaining to committee functions. III. Research A. Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department. 1. Develop programs of clinical and basic science research and scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the Department. Requires the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research. May necessitate (verbally or in writing) instructing research support personnel in protocol implementation. 2. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research. May require completion of grant application forms through verbal dictation or use of a computer and keyboard. Also will require budget development and analysis. IV. Education/Teaching A. Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in the head and neck sciences for fellows and for head and neck surgery residents and students who rotate through the head and neck surgery service. 1. After comprehensive review and analysis, develop, implement, provide and evaluate the written learning materials for the specific graduate curriculum in head and neck surgery and the head and neck sciences. 2. Develop and implement specific continuing education programs pertaining to head and neck surgery. Analyze continuing education needs and, using a dictating machine or a computer and keyboard, develop continuing education programs. 3. Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences which requires verbal interaction with colleagues and walking to meeting locations throughout the campus. V. Service A. Represent the Department of Head and Neck Surgery in local, regional, state, and national matters pertaining to the field of head and neck surgery. Will require traveling to sites outside of the Houston area and, upon return, disseminating the information obtained or learned by verbally or in writing sharing with department colleagues. **MARGINAL FUNCTIONS** Must be able to work within a context of very intense interpersonal relationships including other physicians, patients and subordinates. **SUPERVISION** Received: Chairman, Department of Head and Neck Surgery **EDUCATION AND LICENSURE** Completed the M.D. degree in an accredited medical school or equivalent; Licensed by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners; Board certified in Otolaryngology **EXPERIENCE** Generally 5 years as Assistant Professor or equivalent of 10 years post clinical degree **LICENSURE** Must possess a currently valid and active Texas Medical license to practice medicine in the State of Texas Work Location: Hybrid Onsite/Remote This position has a target base salary of $82,772 to $682,127 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
