*The laboratory of Drs. Alan Faden and Bogdan Stoica *at University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology*is seeking a Laboratory Research Assistant to work in research focused on brain injury, neuroinflammation and dementia.*The successful candidate will work independently and within the team to perform bench research and analysis, and maintain accurate data records. This position requires knowledge of the concepts, practices, and procedures of laboratory research. A strong foundation in biological science is required. A background in neuroscience, molecular/cell biology, and/or pharmacology is desired. Candidates must have hands-on laboratory experience. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.* *Essential Functions:* *Research Assistant:* Performs laboratory research activities that may include: managing mouse colonies, performing experimental procedures, animal surgery,animal behavior testing,microscopy and molecular/cell biology. Compiles and analyzes research data. Coordinates and maintains data reports and database files on progress of research. Assists in preparation presentation of statistical information such as tables, charts, graphs, and other computer graphics. *Research Specialist:*In addition to the Assistant duties, the Research Specialist performs independent project(s) and participates in the design of research protocols; conducts advanced data analysis and interpretation; helps to draft manuscripts; and prepares figures and presentations. *We seek individuals dedicated to biomedical research. This position provides valuable laboratory experience for recent graduates planning to pursue advanced degrees in medicine or research sciences. Our ideal candidate views this opportunity as a meaningful step in their professional development within the scientific community.* *Assistant:* Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field of study. *Preferred Experience:* Previous research and laboratory experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have conducted research in professional or academic settings beyond standard undergraduate laboratory coursework. This includes but is not limited to research assistantships, internships, or full-time laboratory positions. *Specialist*: Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field of study and three (3) years’ experience in laboratory research including two (2) years in the relevant research specialization. *Other: *Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered. * Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a field related to the research of the clinic or laboratory, as appropriate, or Bachelor’s degree in unrelated field with at least one year of experience in a field directly related to the research of the clinic or laboratory, as appropriate. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* Possesses a knowledge of position requirements and able to perform position requirements in compliance with all requirements/regulations/laws. Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory. Skill in data analysis using statistical software as well as spreadsheet and database software applications. Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed. Assumes personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use technology. Effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues. Works cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others.
