Position Summary/Description:
The University of North Carolina invites applications for a full-time, open rank, fixed term faculty position in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health. We are seeking an outstanding clinician and educator who can teach clinical pediatric dentistry in the graduate and DDS programs and treat patients in the pediatric dentistry dental faculty practice and operating room. The ideal candidate must have excellent clinical and organizational skills. Outstanding opportunities exist for teaching and clinical practice in our new state-of-the-art facilities. Evaluation of applicants’ qualifications will be based on experience and accomplishments.
Clinical Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive pediatric dental care in the School of Dentistry affiliated clinics. Support the delivery of preventive, restorative, and emergency dental care to pediatric patients. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal care for pediatric patients. Uphold high standards of care, ensuring adherence to ethical and professional practices in pediatric dentistry.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Provide clinical instruction and mentorship to predoctoral and postgraduate dental students in pediatric dentistry.
Develop, coordinate, and deliver didactic and clinical curriculum in pediatric dentistry.
Assess student performance, provide feedback, and promote clinical competency in pediatric dentistry practices.
Supervise and guide students in the treatment of pediatric patients, including infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special healthcare needs.
Service Responsibilities:
Engage in service activities within the department, institution, and broader dental community.
Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum planning, and committee activities.
Contribute to outreach efforts promoting pediatric oral health in the community.
Stay updated on best practices in pediatric dentistry and contribute to the field’s advancement.
The primary purpose of a Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health is to address the health and well-being of children within the broader context of public health and to teach the next generation of pediatric and public health providers. The Department balances teaching, scholarship, patient care, research and professional service activities. Faculty are involved in didactic, pre-clinical, clinical, continuing education and extramural teaching. Students include dental and medical students, pediatric residents, and public health master’s degree students. This Department focuses on promoting and protecting the health of infants, children, and adolescents, while also considering the impact of social, environmental, and community factors on their health outcomes. By focusing on both individual child health and the broader community and societal factors that influence it, the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health plays a crucial role in promoting the overall well-being of children and contributing to the health of the population as a whole.
