Open Rank Academic Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist
The Department of Anesthesiology, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking a cardiac anesthesia fellowship-trained (or equivalent) anesthesiologist for a faculty position to provide anesthetic care and consultation at University Hospital. The candidate will have opportunity to staff cardiac surgical procedures to include: valve repair/replacement, coronary artery bypass (on/off pump), and aortic root/arch repair, lung (including transplantation), and structural interventional cardiology (including TAVR, mitral/tricuspid clips). Strength in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and management of cardiopulmonary bypass (CBP) is required.
This role combines clinical and teaching responsibilities, fostering the next generation of anesthesiologists while advancing the field through innovative practice improvement. With demonstrated contributions to administrative service, leadership, education, and research, opportunities for expanded roles within the anesthesia department include involvement in program development and mentoring/administrative responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Participate in weekday/weekend call coverage in keeping with the standard for the Department to maintain coverage of Cardiothoracic specialty cases, usually no more than 6 per month. Oversee patient care provided by Residents. Provide resident/student training in clinical setting. Participation in didactic lectures, simulation training, and/or workshop opportunities is available upon request. Participation in administrative/committee service opportunities is encouraged. Provide mentorship to residents, customarily 1 or 2 residents per year. Pursue scholarly activity sufficient to stay abreast of new technology and medical advancements in cardiac anesthesiology. Maintain case volume and certification for continued credentials in TEE and CPB. Work closely with other healthcare professionals to promote optimal and collegial patient care during cardiothoracic surgery. Participate in quality improvement initiatives that enhance operational performance of the division and perioperative outcomes.Qualifications
MD, DO or Foreign Equivalent 48 months of Anesthesiology Residency Training or 12 months of Preliminary Residency Training and 36 months of Anesthesiology Residency Training 12 months of Fellowship Training in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, or comparable experience NBE Certification in Advanced / Diagnostic Perioperative TEE or comparable experience and or ABA certification in Adult Cardiac Anesthesiology Texas Medical License or eligible to obtain licensure Board Certification or board eligible in Anesthesiology Participation in Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA) if applicable Valid DEA Registration Number (Controlled Substance Registration Certificate) ACLS certified or obtaining certification

Base compensation reflects prime-time work Monday-Friday.
Greater total compensation is expected depending on rank, call shifts, and extended time.
Leave package includes 3 weeks of PTO, 3 weeks of holidays, 8 hrs/month of sick leave, and family leave up to 6 weeks if applicable. PTO accumulates at a greater rate with years of service.
