The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health San Antonio is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible medical toxicologist to help us grow the Division of Medical Toxicology as we expand our inpatient Medical Toxicology consultation service. 

About University Hospital and University of Texas Health San Antonio:

You will retain an academic faculty position within the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine Our principal clinical site, University Hospital, is a nationally recognized academic medical center, owned by the people of Bexar County. Ranked the best in San Antonio by U.S. News & World Report for the past 4 years with nearly 70,000 visits and is the premier trauma center. Opened a 93,000 square ft. ED with 80 beds in 2014 and soon opening a second state-of-the-art Women and Children’s Hospital. Operates the South Texas Poison Center, one of six poison centers in Texas, the largest integrated poison center network in the U.S. The Department of Emergency Medicine is home to a three-year Emergency Medicine Residency program with fellowships in Administration, EMS, Global Health, Medical Education, Ultrasound, and Wilderness Medicine.

About our Medical Toxicology Division:

We provide toxicology education for our 3-year EM residency program, PGY2 EM Clinical Pharmacist residency program, as well as a robust fourth-year medical student elective. We seek candidates that share the toxicology commitment, as we seek to expand our division by establishing an inpatient consultation service. We have 10 Poison Information Specialists (SPI) for whom we provide education and provide telephone consultation 24/7/365 for the Texas Poison Center Network.

Optimal candidates will have an established track record of peer-reviewed research, excellence in education, and commitment to clinical service. Toxicology faculty will provide toxicology consultation to SPIs and to healthcare providers through on-call duties. We offer a wide variety of opportunities for program development and scholarly productivity in the areas of trauma, point-of-care ultrasound, global medicine, quality & safety, medical education, and several opportunities for professional development. Clinical faculty will oversee a multidisciplinary group of residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers. Faculty are also expected to participate in resident education. Candidates must be Board eligible or certified in Medical Toxicology and be Board certified in Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine and be eligible for a Texas medical license. Academic appointment and salary will be commensurate with experience.
