Job Overview:

The OR Assistant provides support services to the Surgical Service and Anesthesia staff. This includes but is not limited to patient transport, room turnover, assisting the OR staff with room preparation, assisting anesthesia with preparation of supplies and equipment with supervised direct patient care.

Qualifications:

Required:

High school graduate or equivalent

Preferred:

Previous experience in a Surgical Services setting

Essential Functions:

Places supplies in the appropriate storage areasApply appropriate techniques required to assist nursing in positioning the surgical patientRestock scrub sink areas, locker room areas for hats, shoe covers, etcBring stretchers to room at end of case, lock and assist with taking patients off the OR bedRun errands as needed, i.e., obtain blood, take items for copying, pick up ICU beds, take specimens to designate departments (i.e oncology, mammography), and to the labCheck equipment and bring non-functioning or broken items to deskChecks OR schedule for case cart completionPull outdates, remove from inventory and return to OR office for disposition. Check each OR room for proper equipment, i.e., armboards, table parts, stirrups, clark socketts, etc. Put away equipment that does not belong in the roomsAssure case carts in department (assure no missing items) Return the return cart to CSSRuns errands as needed to be included but not limited to i.e. obtain blood, take items for copying, pick up ICU bedTakes specimens to various departments i.e. pathology (fresh and frozen), Lab (cultures), mammographyAssists with checking of expiration dates and the cleaning of OR supply carts and specialty carts
