Employment Category Regular Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Operating Systems Network Analyst 2, competency level 2, position for the Infrastructure Services at Oregon State University ( OSU ). University Information & Technology ( UIT ) is a mission-driven, dynamic IT organization leading digital transformation at Oregon State University to achieve the university’s ambitious goals of educating more students, making breakthrough discoveries in research, and expanding the university’s outreach and service to Oregon and the world. UIT sets IT strategies for all OSU organizations and encompasses the central organization that manages IT operations for the university, including its three campuses and services that reach students worldwide. This position is in the Infrastructure department which is part of the Technical and Solutions Architecture ( TSA ) unit within Oregon State University’s University Information & Technology ( UIT ) division, this position shares and supports the University’s mission by assisting the University to extend all programs, teachings, research and communication throughout the world. The services provided by UIT - TSA units, including Academic Technologies, Administrative Technologies, Infrastructure, and Network & Telecom Services, assist the University community by facilitating transmission of knowledge and expertise to its members, thereby enhancing their ability to be productive, valued, and esteemed members of the University community, serving the State of Oregon. This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure/Technical Architect in University Information Technology ( UIT ), Technical and Solutions Architecture ( TSA ). This position is responsible for: + Working closely with the faculty and staff at the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine, and supporting the technology infrastructure for the College including the Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ) and Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory ( OVDL ). + Supporting the cloud first strategic approach to leveraging cloud platforms for resilient services. + Coordinating with the technical architect and infrastructure team to adopt the most robust and resilient possible cloud and physical infrastructure (servers & storage) capabilities and cloud services. + Providing support and administration of OSU’s cloud platform(s) including Microsoft O365, Salesforce, Slate, and ServiceNow, and supporting the hosting of servers, applications and services in cloud platforms (e.g. Microsoft Azure). + Providing administration and support of the OSU productivity platform and storage (currently O365 & Box). + Leveraging automation services through the use of industry standard tools to manage and monitor systems. + Managing cloud and on prem services and providing access to various department specific or enterprise-wide technologies. Key Responsibilities 50% – Infrastructure Administration for Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine: + Provide tier 2 technical support and response for supporting CCVM’s integrated medical systems including troubleshooting on-premise network attached medical systems, servers, and storage. + Provision, maintain and manage physical and virtual servers supporting CCVM’s integrated medical systems. + Coordinate application installation, and complete operating system patching and upgrades. + Coordinate with vendors on the technical installation, maintenance and upgrade of network connected or server supported medical and lab equipment. + Migrate systems erroneously installed on local desktops to servers to ensure sustainable support. + Coordinate and manage backups for CCVM systems. + Document and maintain documentation for physical and virtual server configurations, as well as critical system software. + Document standard support processes and procedures for use by Tier 1 end user support IT staff. 40% – Infrastructure & Platform Systems Administration: + Serve as one of several platforms systems administrators who support a range of OSU platforms ( OSU platforms currently include O365, Azure, ServiceNow, Box, etc.) + Conduct system administration tasks in designated platforms including, but not limited to: + Monitor and manage cloud platform services. + Administer systems including configure, deploy and support new functionality in platform services + Inventory, configure, build, and manage capabilities within supported platform services and in alignment with secure configurations and standards + Review and document configuration of cloud platforms to ensure implementation of key security services including encryption of data at rest and in transit, currency of system patches, and other documented secure configuration standards. + Evaluate changes to OSU supported cloud platforms and makes recommendations for use and adoption in support of OSU services. + Coordinate communication and deployment of new cloud platform capabilities through the IT change management process and through UIT communications. + Document platform services standard operating procedures, configurations and standards. + Manage cloud platforms needed for business productivity and back-office infrastructure capabilities including: backups, monitoring, and configuration management/patching. + Monitor cloud platform services performance, resource utilization, and capacity. + Provide support for servers and systems, including some complex and non-routine support for cloud platforms. + Troubleshoot and solve cloud platform service delivery issues in OSU supported cloud platforms. + Prioritize workload based on needs of customers, colleagues and other projects. + Serve in team on-call rotation. 5% PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT + Attend meetings, conferences, training seminars and workshops, read trade materials, and consult with others in the industry to learn about emerging cloud technology infrastructure and services. + Research new technologies as they relate to current OSU cloud platform infrastructure and assess applicability and integration. + Assist in the planning, development and implementation of pilot projects that determine the future direction of OSU cloud platforms in support of the cloud first strategy. + Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technologies and inclusive practices. 5% INFORMATION SECURITY + Follow all UIT and OSU information security polices, standards, rules, and procedures. + Participate in information security training and awareness programs. + Maintain current knowledge of FERPA and other regulatory compliance training. + Coordinate with Office of Information Security to ensure veterinary medicine systems and cloud hosted solutions are designed and implemented in alignment with secure baseline configurations and standards. What We Require This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge in operating systems programs, maintenance, systems administration, and network systems that would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, engineering mathematics, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience. Working Conditions / Work Schedule + A substantial portion of the work requires use of a personal computer; long hours at a workstation using a keyboard are common. Position works within hospital and lab environments to troubleshoot systems and equipment. + Work is on-site/hybrid on the OSU main campus in Corvallis, OR.
