TotalEnergies Gas & Power Limited, London, Meyrin – Geneva Branch (TGP) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the TotalEnergies Group responsible for energy Marketing and Trading activities worldwide. The position is located in Geneva, Switzerland on the trading floor. The Trading division in Geneva is responsible for optimising the purchase & sales portfolios of gas, electricity, CO2 emissions, dry bulk, and LNG in all recognised markets worldwide, in compliance with the Group’s trading guidelines.
The Intern will be working in the Operational Compliance Team (OPC) and report to the Head of Operational Compliance.
ActivitiesTGP operates in highly volatile markets, with significant exposure that requires continuous monitoring and control. Compliance with the regulatory frameworks in each market is mandatory, and our responsibility is to stay informed of these regulations and identify any changes that may impact TGP’s trading operations. Below are the four key regulations governing TGP’s activities:
The European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR), the Regulation on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT), the Electricity Commission (ELCom) ,Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II)
The internship will focus on operational reporting, implementing regulatory updates, and supporting new business activities. It is data-driven, closely aligned with compliance requirements, and directly linked to business operations.
The Intern will work in an environment with a high potential business impact while assisting the OPC Team to adapt its risk control framework and tools to the new financial and physical regulations.
This will require the analyst to understand the risk mitigation processes, legal texts, document & update the new procedures relating to operational compliance and help develop responses to new regulatory environments.
The role holder will have the opportunity to explore key European and global trade reporting regulations and play an active role in ensuring that Middle Office, Back Office, and Finance deliver compliant and accurate operational results. Most importantly, the role involves ensuring that the controls in place are current, well-adapted, and aligned with the activity and prevailing regulatory practices.
Activities:
The Intern will work in the OPC Team which is part of the Trading Support Department and oversees the day-to-day operational regulatory activities and risk mitigation techniques. Daily tasks would include:
Analysis of the desk positions physical and financial, spec and hedgeCalculation of the daily notional value for the trading activities in Europe and AsiaReconcile trades with the counterparty and reduce any discrepancies found. Ensure the completion and reporting of day-today activity to the regulators and analyse the feedbacks.Work closely with Middle Office, Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal & Compliance DepartmentsCollaborate with employees and market trade data from other locations (Geneva, Paris, Houston, Singapore)Update existing and create new innovative processes using Business Intelligence Tools.Provide support with the management of Regulatory projects and act as Business Project ManagerReport to Head of Operational Compliance any breach in the daily compliance processDeal with the daily compliance issues and direct them when appropriate to existing channels for investigation and resolution.Maintain appropriate documentation, records and reports for review by the Auditors or the regulators.Analyze legal texts and tailor them to the specific context of TGP’s activities
Given that the intern will engage with both the financial and operational dimensions of the business, the following qualities are essential:
• Excellent communication skills in English and/or French to collaborate on cross-functional projects
• Prior understanding of financial markets, including their unique risk factors such as price volatility, market mechanisms, and instruments
• Familiarity with market regulations such as EMIR, REMIT, and ElCom
• Ability to interpret and apply legal texts to day-to-day business operations
• Strong understanding of the functioning of European gas and power markets
The Intern will play an active role for the accuracy and completeness of all compliance control reports of the risk control department, the following skills are important:
