Operational Supervisor
**Operational Supervisor – Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:** 1. A substantiated track record of progressive achievement within the manufacturing and/or distribution operational arenas. 2. A team builder with demonstrated ability to communicate with and develop the workforce. 3. Team motivational ability and demonstrated positive attitude. 4. Ability to work comfortably within a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. 5. Ability to establish and maintain positive customer interactions. 6. Ability to read and interpret work instructions, standard operating procedures, and other product documentation. 7. 5 years’ experience in a lead and/or supervisory role within a manufacturing and/or distribution environment. 8. Thorough knowledge of safe material handling practices to include the use of pallet jacks and hand trucks. 9. Forklift operational experience a plus. 10. Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and requirements to include HAZMAT and LOTO guidelines. 11. Basic functional ability as it relates to the use of MS Word, Outlook, and Teams. 12. Basic knowledge of lean six sigma principles and guidelines. 13. Basic Spanish language writing, speaking, and reading capability a plus. 14. A high-school diploma or equivalent – an associate degree a plus. 15. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on an ongoing basis as required. 16. Ability to stand and/or walk for all required shift hours. **Operational Supervisor - Accountabilities:** This position should be in the department before the starting time of the shift to assure an efficient and effective shift start. This allows time for preparation of documentation, checking plans for operational balance and speaking to the associates and the customer’s on-site POC management. Make sure plans for substitute associates are being carried out when an absence is known ahead of time. This allows for a smooth and effective start of the day. Each associate should be in his or her assigned workplace, ready to begin work at the start of the shift. Any unexpected absence must have a substitute assigned as soon as possible or other arrangements must be made. Throughout the day, monitor production for each associate within the department. This is done to determine if your department is meeting its production goals each hour and for the day. Each day the following duties should be performed (some more often than others, but all at least once). This position reports to the respective operational manager. · **Associate Moral / Team Building:** o Set a positive example for everyone in your department. o Greet each associate with an enthusiastic “Good Morning!” o Communicate constructively and proactively with associates and colleagues throughout the day. o Praise success. Express appreciation for efforts, progress, and a job well done. · **Workflow Management:** o Verify the production schedule for the day and for the week. o Verify availability of all specifications and materials well before time to start the line. o Add or reduce line staffing as required. o Constantly keep the work balanced and flowing. o Continuously monitor the WIP (work in process) in each operation. o Maintain production order integrity and priority. o Assure posting and communication of daily output. o Monitor pace of associates. DO NOT allow pacing down for low work, etc. o No idle time! o Have a cross training plan and see that assure that associates are following it. o Be aware of all machine downtime. Spare machinery, if available, must be kept in good working order. They may be used for repairs or cross training. o Stage all completed work properly. o Assure control and minimization of operating overtime. **·** **Product / Services Quality:** o Monitor the quality / accuracy of work being produced. Use the in-process sampling developed for the specific project and/or products specified. o Monitor rework / repair closely. Rework / repair MUST be completed and corrected immediately. o All scrap must be accounted for using the appropriate form(s) provided by the customer and/or engineering. o Focus sampling upon operations, associates, and products with the highest percentage of non-conformances. **·** **Workforce Development:** o Support effective and consistent administration all policies, procedures, and reporting protocols. o Set hourly and daily production output goals for all associates. o Check the work method being used by each associate. Associates should use methods approved by engineering; if not, correct and/or ask for help from the industrial engineer or trainer assigned to that specific project. o Follow-up with low performing associates. What can be done to help them improve? o Perform potential studies on low performing associates. o Determine weakest link (constraint) in the production line and offer possible solutions. o Monitor department analysis, efficiency, performance, and all costs areas. · **Safety / Security / Housekeeping:** **o Support consistent implementation of and compliance with all OSHA / EPA / FDA / CLIENT COMPANY safety, ergonomic, and risk management regulations, policies, guidelines, and initiatives as they specifically relate to safe, secure, and effective operations to include the implementation of any/all new and/or revised regulations and guidelines.** o Support regularly scheduled safety work group (Safety Committee) process audits and facility inspections are conducted, findings recorded, observations shared / communicated to all stakeholders, and recommendations evaluated and acted upon as required. o Support all accidents, incidents, and near misses are recorded, thoroughly investigated, solutions developed, and corrective actions implemented to prevent and/or minimize the opportunity for further reoccurrence. o Support that all associates receive thorough and complete new-hire and/or targeted safety training as well as any required training updates and/or required refresher training. o Support that in job design and methods structuring, that all safety, ergonomic, PPE, and guarding-shielding requirements are appropriately incorporated. o Support that all hazardous chemicals are labeled, containerized, stored, and handled in full compliance with all HAZMAT regulations and guidelines. o Support that all operation-prescribed PPE – footwear, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, aprons, guarding, shielding, harness and lifeline, etc. – is utilized by all colleagues and associates while working within applicable areas. o Support complete implementation and stringent application of Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and protocols. o Support the implementation and continuation of an ergonomic stretching exercise program to minimize exposure to musculoskeletal / repetitive stress injuries. o Assure exits are NEVER blocked. o All machine shields and guarding must be kept in place at all times. o Lockout /tag-out procedures must be observed at all times. o All designated personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. o Electrical safety protocols must be followed at all times. o Insure the general cleanliness of each workstation and the entire department. · **Problem Solving:** o Be proactive, NOT reactive. o Be alert to all off-standard situations, respond immediately and ask why they occurred? o Completely handle one problem before moving on to another. o REMEMBER!! HOW ARE WE DOING NOW? HOW CAN WE IMPROVE? · **Communication:** o Advise manager of potential problems before they happen. Ex. Not meeting output schedule, quality issues, low-performance situations, workflow issues, etc. o Turn in all payroll and production reports promptly, on time, and accurately. o ASK FOR HELP WHEN NEEDED! · **Lean / Continuous Improvement:** o Support a Lean / CI / 6-S culture. o Assure support for Lean / Six Sigma / CI / 6-S tools deployment, and the on-site team is trained in understanding and application. o Assure support for Gemba walks and War Room meeting being conducted daily. o Assure support for Lean / Six Sigma / CI / 6-S initiatives, progress, and results being incorporated within weekly management reviews with client and internal leadership. o Continuously work to improve everything! **Pay Details:** $30.00 to $35.00 per hour Benefit offerings available for our associates include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, additional voluntary benefits, EAP program, commuter benefits and a 401K plan.
