Position Purpose:
This role works as a team member with Entergy’s Operational Information Technology (OIT) group at Waterford 3 Nuclear Plant. The OIT group is responsible for a range of process and security computer systems having applications which are supported directly by site staff. These systems are stand-alone, that is not connected to company LAN or WAN for security purposes. Due to stand-alone nature, OIT group maintains all aspects of equipment for operation, maintenance, and improvement. OIT group also supports Entergy corporate IT initiatives; various IT projects, system selection and upgrade, cyber security initiatives, procedures, and processes.
Responsibilities within the OIT group are rotated such that individuals can become expert on assigned system(s). OIT member participation in a duty schedule is required and rotated between staff members for 24 hour on-call duty. Must live within 90 minutes or less travel to plant site.
Primary Duties & Areas of Responsibility:
For assigned OIT system(s):
• Maintain system health checks, backup and restoration of data, review of logs
• Maintain hardware and vendor contracts for support
• Maintain software program operation, perform software upgrades
• Write scripts and software to create interfaces between systems as required
• Perform software quality assurance tasks documenting software change
• Maintain database and perform database changes as required
• Maintain cyber security protective measures during maintenance and change
• Maintain network and diagnose problems as required
• Work with cross functional teams to troubleshoot interfaces between process systems and data acquisition equipment
• Review and approve engineering changes to the system
• Recommend system improvement and planning for system life cycle including maintenance
• of spares and inventory, vulnerability analysis and reports
• Create work order steps for performance of activities related to above
• Create reports and client-side tools to meet customer needs
• Participate in Corrective Action Program by documenting problems, analyzing root cause,
• and recommending solutions
• Assist customer with reports and system operation as requested
Participate in Cyber Security Program:
• Prepare portable digital media for data transfer using procedural guidance
• Prepare portable digital devices for connection to critical digital assets
• Perform periodic duties to maintain cyber protective profile such as definition updates, system walk down, analysis of logs and alerts, password changes and access control
• Perform cyber security assessments for new equipment and changes to existing equipment
• Perform and maintain system hardening to prevent intrusion
• Review and evaluate application of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposure (CVE)
• Participate in cyber incident response
• Participate in procedure development and modification
Other tasks as assigned:
• Special projects, for example: organize and manage roll out of new version Windows clients, migrate application and data to new servers
• Organize and facilitate IT Department vendor communications and meetings
• Assist with monitoring corrective actions and team training requirement completion
• Manage vendor contracts and services
• Act as system administrator for fleet programs by managing accounts, database, and advising co-workers and customers on system use. Examples; Software Quality Assurance program, Cyber Assessment Software tool.
• Attend meetings for plant schedule, corrective action review, engineering review, cyber security reviews, and fleet programs
• Review newly initiated plant corrective actions for department assignment
• Assist with collecting and uploading monthly IT Department performance indicator data
• Develop apparent cause and root cause analysis reports
• Assist with general IT Department support such as leading small IT projects, department training
coordination, perform department website maintenance
• Represent the Site IT Manager (as directed) in site and Nuclear IT scheduled and emergent meetings
Minimum Educational Background and Physical Requirements Required to perform Job:
Minimum education required of the position:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience required
Minimum Experience Requirements:
(For the IT Specialist – Oper Tech classification)
2+ years application support, development, technology delivery
Technical Competence should equal Basic in IT or OT services
(For the IT Specialist Sr - Oper Tech classification)
4+ years demonstrated track record of relevant technology delivery
(For the IT Consultant – Oper Tech classification)
Higher Level Degree preferred
6+ years demonstrated strong track record of relevant technology delivery (5 years with advanced degree)
