The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is responsible for the
stewardship of the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest and most diversified
port. Our mandate as a Canada Port Authority, as set out by the Canada Marine
Act, is to enable Canada’s trade objectives, ensuring goods are moved safely
and responsibly through the Port of Vancouver. That means providing
infrastructure and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of marine traffic
and cargo within the port. It also means we carry out reviews of proposed activities
and developments on federal port lands and waters to determine whether a
project can go ahead without impacts to the environment and community that
cannot be mitigated.

As the **OperationsCoordinator (AVTM)** , your will be responsible for maintaining situational
awareness and coordinating daily port operations activities, including
monitoring active vessel traffic management. These port operations activities
encompass vessel traffic management, land operations, emergency management and
incident response, stakeholder communication and related monitoring and
reporting activities. This position works collaboratively to ensure the safe
and efficient movement of marine traffic and cargo in the Port of Vancouver in
support of the Active Vessel Traffic Management (AVTM) program.
**What youdo:**
+ Coordinate port operations promoting safety and efficiency inaccordance with port practices and procedures, gathers and interpretsoperational intelligence from a variety of sources and takes actionaccordingly.
+ Evaluate and respond to operational requirements directly or withguidance from Manager Marine Operations – Deputy/Assistant Harbour Master, DutyHarbour Master or appropriate subject matter expert.
+ Coordinate provision of services to customers and ship agents includinganchorage assignments and other vessel requests.
+ Work with a variety of technical CCTV and other monitoring andscheduling systems typical in an Operations Centre environment, conductingdaily system checks as required
+ Manage and controls effective communications with port customers,stakeholders as well as the public, during normal or emergency operations,through appropriate means of communication (e.g. phone calls, email, andother.)
+ Dispatch port resources as required including harbour patrol, roadpatrol, maintenance or contracted resources.
+ Provide written and verbal reports on operational intelligence to VFPAstaff as required.
+ Monitor and reports on Port activities, developing situations andincidents within the Port environment, using all available resources includingtechnology and systems.
**What you bring:**
+ Youhave completed a two-year full-time diploma in operations and logistics,transportation and logistics or another acceptable discipline from a recognizedpost-secondary institution and a minimum of three years related marineexperience.
+ Youwill have excellent knowledge of the port system and stakeholders andexperience in emergency and dispatch is an asset.
+ Youwill have excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite.
+ You will be able to work under pressure and demonstrate the ability to use good judgment, make decisions, show initiative and take responsibility for situations when required.
+ You will exhibit the ability to work effectively in teams demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external contacts
