Operations Director - Resilience

Role description: Manage GEC business operations to ensure that the organisational goals, objectives and mission are achieved through daily operations.  Take on activity in support of the GEC Director when needed to support the people, strategy and client delivery outcomes.  Reports directly to the GEC Director (Resilience) with a dotted line to the GEC Operations Director.  Open in all GEC locations.

Role accountabilities:

Operational

•    Manage operational performance, including oversight and proactive management of staff utilization, overhead costs, project delivery and quality (working with Discipline Directors and/or delivery managers), and supporting profitable project delivery in projects GEC are engaged on.  
•    Implementation plans of each Business Area (BA) and ensure that GEC service contribution targets are met.  Provide timely reporting on progress of plans and assist with the development of quarterly forecasts.
•    Interface with GBA and BA Operations Directors to ensure standardized GEC procedures are understood and aligned to GBA requirements.
•    Oversee and lead sustainability initiatives in our operations to meet net zero carbon targets 
•    Oversee and manage overhead costs related to travel, engineering apps and user access (ie Oracle) to minimize costs at or below budget. 
•    Support billability optimization through engaging with other functions and teams to provide clear reporting that highlights areas of focus and providing suggestions to GEC Director (accountable) on possible remedies.
•    Implementation of improvement projects related to quality, operational efficiency, project risk and commercial management, and workforce planning.
•    Work with leaders across the GBA to develop best practices for project implementation (e.g., involvement in pursuits, execution of work, maximize efficiency of delivery) and create a best-in-class project/task management organization across the teams.
•    Actively create environment for adoption of service best practice including standardization, automation, and digital tools.
•    Ensure service change is operationalized across the GEC GBA, and leadership understand and are acting to their role on Service.
•    Supporting finance (owners) to ensure all activity can be invoiced, and ‘ownership’ of costs are well established in advance of work being done. 
•    Ensure project codes (direct and indirect) are being used correctly. 
•    Interface with Risk and Country Directors to manage crisis response and operational recovery plans 
•    Provide leadership oversight to Health, Safety and Wellbeing Partner with finance team to ensure accurate KPI reporting and internal recharges and problem solve any issues raised

Workforce Planning 
•    Work with Workforce Planner, Business Development Director (BDD), Discipline Directors (DDs) and GEC Director to facilitate timely and accurate information, reporting and analysis of resource supply and demand.
•    Collaborate with DDs and GEC Director to ensure efficient allocation of resources and team billability is maximized.
•    Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure they receive timely information on growth plans, priorities, and can resource appropriately.
•    Actively track and report on progress to delivery of plan targets, cross referencing hiring needs, open requisitions, and project pipeline.
•    Support GEC Directors to resolve critical resourcing issues. 
•    Act as first point of contact for non-GBA or cross-GBA workforce planning requests. 
•    Provide GEC Director with recommendations on proactive recruitment initiatives based on demand forecasting or attrition.


Project Delivery 
•    Actively follow up where areas of MEPC+ are not performing and hold areas responsible for actions to restore performance. 
•    Work closely with peers in the business and enabling functions to support systematic and collaborative approach to MEPC+. 
•    Manage and resolve quality risks and ensure GEC Service Director is informed of any relevant outcomes and root causes.
•    Measure projects actual performance against “as quoted” or expectations set and track ‘at risk’ projects.
•    Establish processes and governance to ensure GEC teams are participating in Project Reviews.
•    Responsible for implementing policies and procedures in line with GEC country specific policies. 
•    Responsible for delivering team metrics in conjunction with Discipline Director and GEC Director
•    Key interface with Discipline Director and Service Delivery Manager(s) for performance of team, development of capabilities and progress on standardization and automation. 
•    Drives team efficiency, enhancing capability development & technical skillset in line with professional standards. 
•    Quality of project deliverables. 
•    Influences recruitment decisions and capability development 

Qualifications & Experience:

The candidate should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree and experience leading and growing a significant business function within a multinational engineering or professional services firm. For this role Arcadis values professional experience across the following priority areas:
