POSITION SUMMARY:
The Operations Engineer, Renewables reports to the Operations Engineering Manager and is accountable for the successful delivery of continual improvement opportunities onsite required to safely, reliably, and compliantly operate ATCO EnPower’s assets, equipment and facilities and meet the needs of ATCO EnPower’s customers. These continual improvement opportunities will have a technical component and include MOCs, Facility Reporting, Sustaining Capital Programs, Improvement Initiatives, and day to day troubleshooting.
They will achieve this by demonstrating situational leadership and through collaborating with other departments across ATCO EnPower, including Technical Services, Commercial, Regulatory and Project Execution and will perform their responsibilities in alignment with ATCO’s Core Values of Caring, Integrity, Collaboration, Agility and Health & Safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibility Area #1 – Technical
Provide day-to-day technical expertise and troubleshooting on equipment at ATCO EnPower Operating Facilities under normal operation, during maintenance activities and under upset conditions. Identify and execute optimization and performance improvement opportunities, including asset strategies. Support with ISO (electrical) compliance program, audits and submissions. Champion the Management of Change (MOC) processes. Reporting Operations KPIs and metrics reporting, and provide recommendations to management. Support development of dashboard to support reporting.Responsibility Area #2 – Project Execution
Identify, scope and support the Sustaining Capital Programs as per the Sustaining Capital Work Flows. Manage the Project/Opportunity Master List. Project Manage individual projects in accordance with ATCO EnPower’s Project Execution Policies and Project Life Cycle, including sustaining capital projects, O&M projects, turnarounds and outages, as required. Performing and reviewing power system studies (e.g. load flow, short circuit, arc flash, etc). Represent Operations on Major Project, Development Projects, and Sustaining Capital project teams.Responsibility Area #3 – Health & Safety
Lead by example, maintaining the highest standard for Health & Safety for oneself, their peers, and the public. Embody the behaviors consistent with ATCO EnPower’s Safety Culture, including creating an psychologically safe and inclusive environment. Be actively involved safety programs and initiatives. Engage and collaborate with the Health & Safety department. Participate in Emergency Response Plan as member of site Incident Command Team (ICS).REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong computer skills. Minimum Bsc. Engineering (electrical Preferred). Professional Designation Preferred. 5+ years min experience with Operations Engineering within the Energy Sectors, renewable energy generation experience preferred Knowledge of NERC and ISO rules is preferred Managing projects of various scopes and sizes Adaptable to changing situations. Well-developed interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Flexibility, has initiative, creative thinker, resourcefulness, and the ability to work as an effective team member. Ability to prioritize conflicting demands. Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills. Organized. Highly motivated and able to work independently. Knowledgeable in applicable regulatory codes and practices. Comprehensive understanding of ICS principles. Knowledge of Project Management practices and tools. Ability to travel to remote sites and corporate offices – estimated at 25%. Class 5 Vehicle Licence.
