Operations (Finishing) Specialist - Furniture Industry
Description Furniture Finishing Manager - Operations Manager Reports To: Sr. Director of Operations Department: Operations Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Furniture Finishing Manager to lead the finishing department, focusing on managing operations related to furniture production. This role oversees finishes on materials like wood, rattan, and raffia. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in manufacturing operations—preferably in furniture or luxury household goods—and hands-on experience in color development and application. Proficiency in finishing techniques such as spraying, sanding, and lacquer application is required. This position involves managing a team of 15 finishing technicians, ensuring top quality, and collaborating with other departments to maintain efficient workflows. The role will be 60% office-based, managing operations, and 40% in the warehouse overseeing the team. Responsibilities + Lead and manage the finishing department, providing feedback and fostering a respectful work environment. + Oversee painting, sanding, and drying tasks to ensure timely delivery of work orders. + Inspect and assess furniture to meet quality standards. + Train and mentor staff on finishing techniques and processes. + Develop and maintain consistent color application across all products. + Collaborate with product development on color requirements. + Implement quality control procedures and address defects or issues. + Maintain finishing equipment and ensure safety compliance. Production Management + Oversee the daily manufacturing process to ensure products are produced on time and meet quality standards. + Develop production schedules, allocate resources, and manage teams to meet company goals. + Monitor workflow and adjust production plans for optimal efficiency. Operational Efficiency + Analyze production data to identify areas for process improvement, cost reduction, and waste elimination. + Implement lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime. + Oversee maintenance schedules to ensure equipment is functioning properly and minimize disruptions. Team Leadership + Manage and lead production supervisors, machine operators, and other personnel. + Provide training, mentoring, and performance evaluations to ensure goals are met. + Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Safety & Compliance + Ensure the facility adheres to all safety regulations, including OSHA and environmental standards. + Develop and enforce safety protocols to minimize workplace injuries. + Stay updated with industry regulations and ensure compliance with any changes.
