Operations Manager

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and assists all aspects of Operations in managing the facility in preparation for upcoming events, including crowd management, building security, ADA compliance, housekeeping, setups and changeovers, and fire/life safety.Develop timelines, schedules and action plans for event setup and services to maintain smooth operation of events.Knowledgeable in methods in setting up/tearing down events, principles of rigging, housekeeping, and cleaning techniques.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with security, police, UVA Athletics, and other personnel and/or safety organizations.Works closely with other departments to ensure all building and client needs are met efficiently and within budget.Reviews and makes recommendations on modifications to policies and procedures for operations and event staff.Anticipates problems and presents appropriate solutions. Investigates, analyzes, and resolves operational problems and complaints.Management of service contracts to include pest control, fall arrest system, scoreboard hoist, and others.Maintains compliance with OSHA standards, leads monthly safety committee meetings, and keeps staff up to date on all safety training.Works flexible/varied hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Directly supervises Operations Coordinators.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and managing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college, university, or technical college.  Related degree preferred.3-5 years’ experience in a similar facility, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Demonstrated technical knowledge of building maintenance and control functions.Previous supervisory experience required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of facility capabilities, operational procedures, and technical requirements of events. Must have knowledge of tools, materials, and event equipment.Excellent verbal, written, problem solving, and interpersonal skills required.Ability to operate a forklift and other industrial equipment related to building management.Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines. Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedules; demonstrated problem-solving skills.Ability to perform the physical duties of this job; walk/stand extensively, kneel, climb to high walkways, balance, and maneuver to all areas of the facility; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; work inside and outside the building is required, may have some exposure to adverse conditions; hear and speak using a two-way radio.Must have a professional attitude and appearance.
