Operations manager Revenue & Upstream

The Revenue Upstream and IG Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for managing the Revenue Accounting and Joint venture accounting for a line of business / asset. The OM role will be part of the Asset finance leadership team and will be collaborating with key stakeholders in other departments, including, but not limited to Business, Production Excellence, Finance in the business (FIB), Reporting and Analysis (R&A), Marketing & Transportation and Commercial Operations.

The role will be responsible for ensuring accurate accounting for Shell’s entitlement of Hydrocarbon revenue and associated obligations and ensure accurate accounting of Non operated Venture (NOV) costs and management of cash calls and Shell Operated Venture (SOV) partner billing.

The OM role will drive end to end process improvements as well as control enhancements.

Ensure integrity of financial statements through status of Accounts review and Reporting Compliance

The role will lead a team of 12- 20 finance professionals.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES & KEY CHALLENGES:

The Operations Manager must be familiar with aspects of revenue accounting and Joint Venture accounting and understand the various issues impacting the asset /industry.

Monitor internal control processes for revenue and royalty recording and reporting - monthly closing, status of accounts, reporting compliance; maintain internal control framework for team.

The OM role would Lead the reconciliation and close out of historical accounting issues in JVA and ensure process sustainability.

OM role would lead design and execute capability development program to strengthen team’s understanding of E2E process and ensure first time right delivery.

Supervise and guide experienced staff in a team of 12-20 people.

Work with, EY, Internal audit, partners, and regulatory agencies to assess compliance activity; address queries regarding controls / partner and regulatory audits.

Work with Asset Business Groups and Financial Reps, Commercials to ensure alignment with production, information management and reporting.

Ensure that processes are fit for purpose and that simplification and standardization become the ways of working.

Ensure integrated approach to application of processes and controls. Drive Lean Sigma analysis at the desk level, seeking great efficiencies, to deliver the cash flow requirements to the organization.

Assist with projects within the Upstream and IG Revenue team, as necessary.

Lead in upcoming systems implementation & cut-over activities

The OM will be accountable for co-owing the business outcomes. It is expected that there is clearer roles and responsibilities for self and the team.

The incumbent is required to have excellent problem resolution skills, strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to understand the end-to-end business processes.

KEY EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES:

A Professional degree in Finance or Accounting (CA / CPA/ ACCA / CIMA) with more than 10 years post qualification experience.

Having worked or working in Upstream Finance processes will be an advantage.

Strong analytical skills specifically around data analysis and Interpretation

Excellent organizational, problem solving, and critical thinking skills and exercise sound judgment in decision making, demonstrating a clear understanding of the issues involved.

Effective time management and organizational skills and the ability to independently set goals and priorities.

Ability to develop strong working relationships with other organizations.

Ability to communicate with Shell business partner representatives in a professional manner.

Ability to establish ongoing relationships with key stakeholders to ensure clarity of expectations
