Job Description
The Operations Manager position supervisesthe Dining Program, Catering Program, Retail Program, and all other Food & Beverage Operations & Initiatives at the University of Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Airlines Center. This position oversees multiple units in and around UAA’s Campus with a forward focus on campus vibrancy. The Operations Manager is a unique and exciting opportunity for an energetic and motivated manager who is constantly seeking excellence in service standards. This key leadership position is directly responsible for the successful operation of all Food & Beverage Operations on campus.
The Operations Manager ensures the client customer service satisfaction with efficient cost-effective management, meeting and exceeding stated expectations. They will also provide strong leadership to a team whose focus is exceptional service, exceptional quality and driving customer service.
Responsibilities
Trains staff in performance of duties.
Assigns and coordinates work of employees to promote efficiency of operations.
Supervises Food & Beverage Operations at UAA.
Develop daily menus using Sodexo programs and Student Life.
Prepares work schedules.
Works closely with marketing manager on daily specials, Limited Time Offers, themes, dinners to enhance dining experience for students.
Makes sure the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all assigned employees are defined and understood.
Inspects serving area, dining areas and utensils and equipment to ensure sanitary standards are met.
Ensures that all Food Safety Standards are met on a daily basis.
Maintains excellent customer communications and relations that promotes continuous improvement in provided services, efficient problem resolution, and acceptance of new services.
Keeps records such as amount and cost of meals served and hours worked by employees.
Reports to the General Manager in purchaser to maintain stock levels and ensure standards of quality are met.
Is accountable for the delivery of high quality and cost-effective foods as well as ensuring all activities and operations comply with applicable internal and external regulations.
Directs preparation of foods and beverages in planning menus, running reports and tracking product movement.
Tracking of financial data, reports, forecasts, and expenditures to achieve optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximize profits.
Follows company policy on daily cash reconciliation and reporting.
Promotes and accepts accountability safety compliance.
Continuously seeks to improve the quality of assigned activities.
Consistently demonstrates professional skills in efficiently carrying out assigned activities, using all forms of communications, handling of change, developing employees, solving typical retail business problems, and making decisions.
May manage subordinate supervisors and non-supervisory employees.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, coaching and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; encouraging and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Meet with student clubs and actively engage with residents and resident assistant coordinator on a regular basis to plan and organize special events.
Utilize Sodexo programs and promotions.
This position is responsible for the supervision of staff.
Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
At least five (5) years of hospitality experience.
Municipality of Anchorage Food Handler’s Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of hire.
Must have Training for Alcohol Professionals (TAP) certification contingent upon 30 days of hire.
HACCP ServSafe certification required contingent upon 30 days of hire.
The ability to work toward accomplishing objectives with a sense of urgency and the ability to work effectively with a minimum of supervision or support.
A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
Must be able to balance multiple activities with strong attention to detail.
Dedicated to and takes initiative for understanding and exceeding customer expectations.
Must have basic proficiency in MS Office Suite Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English
Preference
Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Culinary, and/or Business Management.
Five (5) years’ experience in Higher Education, to include board planning over 2 million in revenue.
Able to type a minimum of 45 words per minute.

Description of environment: University setting with multiple units.
Physical requirements: Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Infrequently required to sit, crouch or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs

Excellent interpersonal skills needed to effectively motivate, direct, and lead assigned employees. Must be proficient in performing many tasks simultaneously, ensuring all details are successfully completed.
Recognition that service is a demonstrated attitude and a state of mind, not a task or step. A dedication to understanding & exceeding customer expectations. A high energy level/sense of urgency in carrying out assigned tasks.
Reasoning abilities sufficient to: 1) Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 2) Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Strong work ethic with ability to work extended hours in a multifaceted environment – i.e. operations, administrative & development.
