Operations Supervisor

Position Description

The Operations Supervisor position is based out of Kinder Morgan’s Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) Columbus CS 546 location at 511 Crowe Road, Columbus, Mississippi 39702.  This is a Monday through Friday position with on-call responsibilities nights and weekends.  Kinder Morgan offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, two retirement plans, paid holidays, and paid time off.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

Provide supervisory leadership to crews in assigned geographic area.  Responsible for the safety and environmental programs, compliance with company procedures and government regulations, development and management of the budgets, reliability of equipment employee training and development and overview of administrative functions relevant to the work.  Direct supervision of two Equipment and Controls Technicians and six Operations Specialists.  Supervise two TGP Natural Gas Compressor Stations, including six Cooper Bessemer GMWA-10 units, one Cooper Bessemer 12Z-330 unit, four Clark TCV-16 units, and two GE Frame 3 turbines in addition to 175 miles of pipeline.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide supervisory leadership to crews in assigned geographic area.Responsible for safety and environmental programs, compliance with company procedures and government regulations, development and management of budgets, employee training and development and overview of administrative functions relevant to the workResponsible for the operation and maintenance of process equipment, instrumentation, pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, pipelines, compressors and auxiliary equipment, engines, turbines, motors, cooling equipment, valves, seals and other related equipmentEnsure the cost effective and efficient performance of pumps, exchangers, engines and associated equipment at compressor stations and pipelinesInstall, repair, service and maintain instrumentation, valves, pipe, pipeline appurtenances and associated equipmentResponsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment, including 175 miles of large diameter transmission pipeline, and right-of-way, including, but not limited to excavating, repairing, coating and backfilling pipelines, concrete work, painting, building erection, weed control, etc.Maintain, adjust, make minor repairs and operate equipment (i.e., industrial wheeled tractors, water pumps, air compressors, expanders, coolers, test equipment, vehicles, etc.)Represent the Company during contacts with landowner / tenants, public officials / emergency officials and at local meetings (One Call, Pipeline Groups, Soil Conservation, USFS, etc.)Oversee construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third partiesTrain and oversee company and third party personnel as required (i.e., personnel in progression, transport drivers, contractors, visitorsPerform governmental compliance activities (OSHA, DOT, State Agencies, EPA, USF, etc.)Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concernsActively participate in safety programs and initiativesParticipate in the development of O&M Procedures, Site Specific Procedures, project scopes and work plansComplete all applicable documentation and record keepingOccasional overnight travel may be required, however most travel will consist of weekly day trips to the various, assigned compressor stations.All other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or equivalent

 

EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

Prior supervisory experience or a minimum of five years of experience in the natural gas industryKnowledge of Company procedures and government regulations relevant to pipeline operations

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record to be insurable by the Company insurance carrierSubject to license or certification requirements or training as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies or the Company

 

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to plan, organize, document, prioritize and complete work efficientlyStrong leadership skills and the ability to manage crews at multiple locations and perform multiple tasks on a daily basisMust be able to communicate, verbally and in writing, in EnglishStrong commitment to safetyBasic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimalsBasic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operating systems and other company softwarePerform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, regulatory and Company tariff requirementsDemonstrate performance and leadership toward operational excellence.Must have good attention to detail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies and/or Company Policy.Must be able to frequently enter confined spaces, and climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkwaysMust be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and 50 pounds from floor to waistMust be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, carry up to 50 pounds and to see, hear, walk and talk effectively.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May work in low-lit areasMust be able to withstand extreme weather conditionsDepending upon the location and workload, travel may be requiredMust be available for shift work when applicableField activities may include walking to and among work and/or constructions sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment and working in confined spacesMust be available for responding to emergency situations on a 24/7 basisMust live within a 45 minute response/travel time to Columbus location.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION: (Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position.)

Preference may be given to candidates with college degrees, especially a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or similar programs.
