Operations Supervisor

Viterra is seeking an Operations Supervisor in Thunder Bay. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient, profitable, and safe operation of the terminal elevator located in Thunder Bay while providing a quality customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise terminal operations including receiving, cleaning, storing, special processing and shipping of grain and by-products and monitor performance to optimize results and sustain continuous improvement. Report daily on key operational indicators, terminal/system performance, issues and opportunities and explains variances from planned results.Responsible for industrial relations including disputes and grievance resolution; appraising, disciplining, discharging and recognizing employees to promote constructive working relations, positive morale and team work.Identify, schedule and deliver employee training on an individual and role-needs basis; maintains employee training records and verifies competency in areas trained.Monitor grain inventories and implements approved strategies to improve grades, protect quality, maximize shipping opportunities and ensure efficient space utilization.Responsible for maintaining housekeeping standards and conducting regular plant, safety and other assigned inspections.Recommend, develop and implement terminal safety and loss control procedures to ensure compliance with legislated standards, company policy and best practices.Participate in developing the terminal capital and operating budgets.In conjunction with the manager, assist in the development of weekly staffing levels and annual vacation schedules to optimize operational efficiency and safety. Responsible for verifying and authorizing employee time and attendance, payroll administration, performance and regularly updating employee files.Ensure facility ISO and HACCP standards, policies and JSEAs are followed and understood by all staff.Maintain constructive working relationships with maintenance department, all internal company departments, external companies, customers, regulatory bodies, other grain and support agencies in serving the grain trade

Knowledge and Skills:

Proven ability to lead by example.Excellent judgment ability, analytical, planning and organizing skills as well as strong interpersonal and computer skills.Excellent oral and written communication.Must have or be eligible to obtain First Aid and CPR 'B'.This position will be required to work on a continuous schedule including weekends and statutory holidays.

Education and Qualifications:

Minimum six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in a terminal elevator, supplemented by courses in business and communication.Grade 12.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience that result in the required level of knowledge skill and competence will be considered.
