How you will make an impact
The electric system in Vermont is undergoing a profound transformation, and our System Operators require continuous training to stay current with changes in technology and the tools we use to operate the grid. As renewable energy continues to increase and the historical model of centralized generation evolve with it, so to must the tool sets used by the System Operators.
The Operations Training Coordinator will plan, develop, design, implement, maintain, document, instruct, evaluate and perform training for the VELCO Operations personnel. Ensure that VELCO Operations personnel have the required tools, knowledge and skills required to operate the VELCO electrical system safely, reliably, and efficiently while meeting all federal, regional and industry standards, e.g. FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation), and the NPCC (Northeast Power Coordinating Council).
Responsibilities
+ Create and maintain the training program for all VELCO operating positions as defined with VELCO Operating Procedure number 50 – Operations Training Program.
+ Develop, administer and provide instruction using a recognized Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) method for continuing education and initial training qualification.
+ Perform detailed job/task analysis for the System Operator position and develop the required training.
+ Be the NERC Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the VELCO operations training program, prepare audit packages, and present audit materials.
+ Develop (or assist in the development of) training packages to be presented both internally and externally at various forums and venues, such as with ISO-NE and the Vermont Distribution Utilities.
+ Develop an annual training plan, define course materials and venues, budget and coordinate the purchase of all approved training programs and materials that support the defined plan.
+ Administer Operations personnel training records to track NERC certification Continuing Education Hours (CEH).
+ Work closely with the System Operators, Operations support personnel, and VELCO technical disciplines to develop training for new and modified equipment, systems, and facilities.
+ Assist in the development and modifications to operating procedures and the delivery of associated documentation.
+ Assist in the development, setup, and implementation of the operation of the Operations Training Simulator (OTS) .
+ Participate in working groups and training seminars at various locations throughout New England.
Who you are
A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or other related technical field, or the combination of an Associate's degree in the same with at least 5 years' experience within electrical transmission or distribution operations, engineering or training. Must have, or be able to obtain, a NERC TO-level certification and understanding of a Systematic Approach to Training.
Knowledge of transmission or distribution system operations, instructional design, System Operator experience and training experience are desired. Preference will be given to candidates competent in both knowledge of system operations and instructional capabilities.
Knowledge/Skills
Superior written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail, effective instruction skills. Computer aptitude with knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Energy Management Systems, understanding of interconnected utilities and ISO-NE.
Important Considerations
The annual salary range for this position is $101,000 to $142,000 but most offers will fall between $101,000-$122,000. Relocation assistance available.
• Starting pay will be determined at the time of offer based on the experience, education, and training of the successful candidate.
• VELCO is headquartered in Rutland, Vermont.
• Must be able convey complex information in writing, verbally and by demonstration, perform typical administrative functions such as keyboarding, work additional hours when necessary.
• Duties will require periodic overnight travel.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to respond to off-duty calls, particularly in the event of system emergencies, prolonged equipment and/or customer outages.
• Must maintain a valid driver's license.
