POSITION OVERVIEW

The Production Operator reports directly to the Shift Supervisor and is a member of multi-disciplined crew responsible for the operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility, including LNG ship loading activities and emergency response. The incumbent is expected to be able to take instructions and conduct his/her duties activities in a safe manner on the LNG facility. Dedication, sensitivity to safety issues and compliance with policies and procedures is essential for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant. 

This is a DOT-position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Ensure compliance with DOT, FERC, OSHA, USCG, and other governing organizations as applicable.  Performs duties of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility operator for area assigned in a 12-hour daily rotational shift environment, including holidays, weekends, and nights.  Be able to take call-in requirements and work overtime as needed.  Operates plant utilities including electrical power systems, air, water, sanitation, nitrogen, fire water system.  Operates plant process areas including inlet gas, amine, dehydration and cryogenic/liquefaction systems, refrigerant compressors and turbines, storage and loading systems including storage tanks, jetty operations, and LNG ship loading.  Provides routine maintenance and security tasks when operations schedules permit.  Monitors and records instrument readings of gas volumes, temperatures, flows and pressures to ensure safe operation and quality product, and reports deviations from standard so that corrective action can be taken.  Trains on environmental safety, operations, and security procedures.  Operates the facility recognizing the safety and environmental consequences of actions taken.  Achieves the highest levels of environmental and safety compliance.  Carries out other duties as assigned.  Records and evaluates operating performance data and informs Shift Supervisor and/or Senior Operator of potential problems and failures in a timely manner; works with Shift Supervisor and/or Senior Operator to expeditiously resolve plant problems and improve plant reliability and safety. Performs all duties applying safety protocols and adhering to regulatory mandates.  Coordinate housekeeping activities in areas of responsibility to eliminate safety hazards and maintain a clean working environment.  Inspects safety devices in area assigned, verifies their placement, test their operational status to establish their hazard/incident detection and warning capabilities to prevent fires and accidents.  Report all issues detected or incidents immediately upon inspection/testing of safety devices.  The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time, or the scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands. 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

Knowledge:

Opportunities exist for various levels ranging from a basic understanding to experienced Production Operators. Depending on level of experience, the expectation of candidates is to have at least a basic to working knowledge of plant operating procedures, safe handling practices, equipment, maintenance protocols, governmental regulations, related technical and safety codes, standards, and reporting requirements. Understanding plant rules and guidelines regarding relevant equipment, operations, and certification requirements. Have a basic to general working knowledge and understanding of Human Machine Interface (HMI) panel and general process plant systems (utilities, inlet feed gas, amine systems, dehydration systems, flare systems, storage and loading, and other process areas etc.). 

Skills:

An acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment.  Able to follow directions and quickly formulating and effectively communicate questions if clarification of an assignment is required Ability to troubleshoot minor process operational problems.  Possesses a general understanding of his role within the Permit to Work System and can identify many unsafe acts and hazards in the workplace.  Able to apply existing skills in new roles and or environments.  Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.    Computer literate, including Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude for learning new software applications and systems.  Able to use key features of relevant software to perform job duties. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Education, Training and Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Formal education in related technical or engineering discipline or related military training/experience is desirable. Candidates will have to complete all Company-provided training on the various types of equipment in an LNG facility. Other training requirements for a Production Operator includes the following subjects:  Utility operations including air, water, fire water, sanitation, and nitrogen.  Electrical power generators  Ship loading systems operations.  Emergency shutdown (EDS) systems.  Fire and gas detection and suppression systems.  Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) operations.  Basic LNG plant operations, principles, and theories.  Basic machinery diagnostics.  Basic LNG pumps operations.  Basic boil off gas (BOG) and vapor return blower operations.  Basic office applications and time reporting procedures.  Basic storage tank operations.  Basic Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) applications.  Basic process controls including flow, pressure level, and temperature logic systems and process diagrams (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s). 

Experience:

Plant process experience 2+ years in related industry (Petrochemical/Refinery/Cryogenic). Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and possess the personal characteristics of integrity, accountability, and dependability is also required.  The incumbent should have a general understanding of field operational experience in startup/ shutdown and preparation of field equipment for maintenance. Experience with LNG or other cryogenic hydrocarbon liquids or related military training /experience is an asset. Experience with electrical and Gas Turbine driven compressors. Willingness and ability to cross-train to learn new jobs and skills.

WORK CONDITIONS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, smell, type and write.    Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height, and lift and move objects weighting up to 50 pounds.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and exposed to year around weather conditions, ocean environment, noise, and occasionally process gases and vapors. There is a considerable amount of outdoor activities involved.  Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations.    Required to pass regularly scheduled physical examinations mandated by regulatory authorities.    Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid, CPR, and LNG firefighting.  All responsibilities must be met in a rotating shift environment, including holidays, weekends, and nights.  Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
