Targeted Hourly Pay Range: Minimum of $25.00 to a maximum of $28.50

POSITION PURPOSE: Play a critical role in protecting the environment as our Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I! You will be responsible for operating and maintaining our wastewater treatment facility to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and permit requirements. This hands-on role involves monitoring treatment processes, conducting laboratory tests, optimizing treatment performance, performing preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting equipment issues.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate and monitor the wastewater treatment plant equipment and processes, including pumps, valves, tanks, clarifiers, and filtration systems.Perform routine laboratory tests, such as pH, hardness, alkalinity, boron, and ammonia, to monitor treatment effectiveness.Adjust treatment processes by manipulating process flow rates, chemical addition feed rates, or making other necessary changes to optimize treatment efficiency and efficacy.Maintain accurate logs and records of plant operations, test results, and maintenance activities.Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks, such as lubricating equipment, changing filters, and inspecting systems for potential issues.Respond to alarms and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, making necessary repairs or coordinating with maintenance personnel.Effectively communicate all equipment malfunctions, process deficiencies, and key performance indicator (KPI) variances.Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permit requirements, and safety protocols.Participate in training programs to maintain OSHA compliance and to enhance knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and regulations.Assist in the development, implementation, and validation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the treatment plant.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT    

This position operates on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. Employees work 7 consecutive days followed by 7 days off. The shift rotates between day and night shifts every 4 weeks.Team meeting attendance is required once per month.Occasional shift coverage will be required for staff absences and vacations.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in treatment plant operations or a related field preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Working knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, processes, equipment (e.g., clarifiers, filtration systems, pumps), and relevant environmental regulations.Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining wastewater treatment systems, including troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the aptitude to identify and resolve process deviations and equipment malfunctions.Proficiency in conducting standard laboratory tests and interpreting results to optimize treatment performance.Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate record-keeping, data entry, and report generation.Solid understanding of and adherence to safety regulations and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders.Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a team.Physical capacity to perform essential job functions, including lifting up to 50 lbs. and climbing ladders and stairs. 

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

Completion of a water/wastewater treatment operator or water distribution certification program, or relevant technical training.
