**Job Description** **Position Title:** Operator Technician I or II **OPEN UNTIL FILLED** **Department/Location:** Office of Chief Ops Officer/Groton, SD **Company:** Basin Electric Power Cooperative **Position Purpose:** Operates and maintains the gas turbine generating units, all electrical and electronic equipment, and other plant facilities at the Groton Generation Station (GGS). **Essential Functions:** + Responsible for performing all duties in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with safe work procedures and safety regulations. + Perform preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and troubleshoot to solve station mechanical and technical problems. + Maintain the GGS remote supervisory system between the Groton Station and the Deer Creek Remote Operations dispatch center. + Write technical procedures; updates logs and reports on plant equipment and maintain an inventory of replacement parts. + Direct activities of other support or contract personnel and other delegated functions in the absence of the Operations/Maintenance Supervisor. + Ensure all engines are started and stopped as scheduled to prevent economic penalties. + Receive all calls from Basin Real Time Marketing for SPP self-commitments in the Market. + Properly enter all outages and de-rates in the PCI software system + Operate the station within the environmental requirements and operate units from the control room. + Implement/issues equipment clearances (Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space, and Hot Work) in preparation for inspection, testing, or maintenance. On return of clearance, inspect and return the equipment to normal operation. Follow prescribed clearance procedures. + Perform ground maintenance (mowing, watering, removing snow), painting and cleaning company property. + Operate a gas pipeline for providing fuel and keeps the fuel supply coordinator informed of fuel usage. + Remain current on SD PHMSA gas pipeline regulations and Operator Qualifications. **Qualifications** **:** Operator Technician II: + Certificate program or associates degree in Process Technology, Power Generation Technology or related; or + High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED); and 2 years of maintenance or operations experience in an industrial, coal-based/combustion turbine generation, or combined cycle generation power plant. **Operator Technician I:** + Certificate of completion or an associate’s degree in Process Technology, Power Generation Technology or + High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED); and 2 years of maintenance or operations experience in an industrial, coal-based/combustion turbine generation, or combined cycle generation power plant; and + One year of operating experience at Groton Generation Station or at a natural gas LMS100 combustion turbine generation facility. + Successful completion of the Groton Operator Qualification program. **Other Requirements:** + Knowledge of plant operating procedures and equipment, including pollution control equipment. + Good written and verbal communication skills. + A valid driver's license. + Resume required. + The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this job. This position requires finger dexterity, good color vision and good hearing. Working conditions may frequently include chemicals and noise; and occasionally extreme heat and cold, dirt and dust. The incumbent will also be required to work occasionally at heights up to 100 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards.
