Position Summary: 

The Cumberland Gap Tunnel Authority has 38 full-time employees composed of an administrative staff, mechanical and electrical staff and 4 operations teams. Operations consists of 2-day teams and 2-night teams. Each 7-member team works 12.5-hour shifts 4 days on and 4 days off. CGTA is hiring 2 full-time operators to work a minimum of 38 hours per week. This is a full-time floating position to include a day shift rotation from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM or a night shift rotation from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM or a split shift combination of both rotations. Days and hours to be determined by the Tunnel Manager on an as-needed basis.  

Essential functions and responsibilities:  

Perform high level service and task work to assure continued safe flow of traffic through the tunnels. Monitor and manipulate traffic flow and assist traveling public as needed. Inspect and escort hazardous material carriers and maintain proper records on paper or computer Perform all aspects of janitorial and building maintenance, grounds maintenance, basic repairs on equipment and mechanical systems within the portal buildings, tunnels, and outdoor sites.  Respond to fire, hazardous material spills, medical emergencies and rescue operations as needed.
