The University of Miami has an exciting full time opportunity for an Ophthalmic Echographer with Bascom Palmer Eye Institute located in Miami, Florida

The Ophthalmic Echographer performs ocular diagnostic examinations using ultrasonic (echographic) instrumentation.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

Performs ocular diagnostic examinations using ultrasonic echography instrumentation, documents procedures, and uploads images in the electronic medical record/PACS system.

Provides patient-centric care.

Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, and values.

Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.

Maintains a professional appearance.

Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.

Completes the University of Miami mandatory in-services and online training.

Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.

Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.

Meets daily productivity goals.

Performs organizational duties as assigned.

Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.

Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.

Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary.

Works evenings and weekends as needed.

Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications.

Proposes, assists, and collaborates with residents, fellows, and faculty members with research projects.

Serves as a lead when assigned.

Oversees quality assurance of the photography unit and addresses deficiencies in a timely and constructive manner.

Maintains JCAHPO certifications.

Prepares and documents ultrasound findings reports.

Acts as super user for imaging technology implementations and training initiatives.

Acts as preceptor for echography team members.

Performs ultrasound evaluations under anesthesia in the OR.

Assists with training of visiting ultrasound technicians, residents, fellows, and faculty members.

Acts as mentor, and preceptor for echography team members.

Supports residents, fellows, and faculty members with echography presentations.

Participates in the evaluation process for demo and pilot devices.

Works with providers, residents, and fellows to provide training and customization of imaging software including hanging protocols.

Performs diagnostic testing including but not limited to the below.

A-scan biometry and IOL Master

Contact/immersion A-Scan

High-resolution B-scan and standardized A-scan

Unsupervised, complex globe and orbital exams

Imaging & measuring extraocular muscles with B-scan and diagnostic A-scan

Keratometry

QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                                               

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Certification and Licensing:

CDOS (Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer) and

ROUB (Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist)

Experience:

5 years of experience in ophthalmic ultrasound, including biometry

Knowledge, Skill, and Attitudes:

Displays expert knowledge of refractometry.

Displays expert knowledge in the selection of ultrasound probes.

Performs standardized ultrasound protocols.

Expert knowledge of standardized probe positioning and scan labeling.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Works well with patients of all age groups.

Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal skills.

Analyzes, organizes, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Completes assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Seeks out instruction in areas that require additional knowledge.

Works independently and in a collaborative environment.

Displays expert understanding of ocular anatomy, function, and motility.
