Ophthalmic Technician

Job Description

Performs initial examination, diagnostic and other ophthalmic testing procedures such as ultrasonography, perimetery, etc. using a variety of ophthalmic instrumentation. Maintains and calibrates equipment and supplies. Assists professional staff with examinations and minor surgical procedures.

Job Responsibility

1.Performs initial examination of all patients including assessing visual acuity, obtaining medical/ophthalmic history, measuring optical power, retinoscopy and refraction.
2.Performs diagnostic and other ophthalmic testing procedures on patients, such as ultrasonography, perimetry, visual function (VER, ERG, EOG, and Dark adaptonmetry), biometry, tonometry and tonography. May also be trained in other instrumentation.
3.Schedules patient appointments testing. Maintains records and appropriate statistical data.
4.Maintains and calibrates equipment and supplies in clean and orderly condition.
5.Assists professional staff with examinations and minor surgery including instructing patients on Physician's orders.
6.Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

•High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
•Ophthalmic Technician certification, preferred. -OR-
•Minimum of two (2) years full time Ophthalmic Technician experience.
