**Summary**
Conducts various tests and assists with all aspects of diagnostic evaluation of ophthalmic patients.
**Job Function**
Impacts the care received by ophthalmic patients.
+ Records the ophthalmic history of the patient.
+ Performs the preliminary assessment and recording of visual acuity, color vision testing, schirmer testing, visual field exams, ocular motility, pupil assessment and refraction.
+ Provides ophthalmic surgical assistance in the clinic procedure room.
+ Performs Humphrey visual testing and various types of eye photography to include fluorescein angiography.
+ Assumes responsibility for the maintenance and care of the equipment and surgical instruments.
+ Ensures adequate levels of supplies.
+ Serves as a mentor/instructor to ophthalmic assistants in patient care and proper use of equipment.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Education**
**Required** : High school graduation or equivalent.
**Experience**
**Required** : Five years related experience.
**License/Certification**
All of the following: Upon Hire: Certified as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology and Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
