University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to support the Urgent Eye Care Center located at 1622 Locust Street, Pittsburgh PA, 15219. This role will work Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm (occasional travel may be required- ~5%)

Backed by the expertise of the UPMC Vision Institute, the Urgent Eye Care Clinic specializes in sudden eye problems.

Our specially trained first responders provide eye care that most Pittsburgh-area ERs or urgent care centers don’t offer.

The Urgent Eye Care Clinic treats symptoms of a range of acute eye conditions for patients 15 and older, including:

Sudden vision loss. Scratched corneas. Red or painful eyes. New flashes or floaters.

Responsibilities:

Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to – imaging; OCT, OPTOS & HVF Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate. History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family. Lensometry: automated and manual Angle assessment & dilation of pupils Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day. Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus Tonometry: Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity
